I use WKU, and I found my most success in my first year by running the option. They really don't have the talent to play their spread playbook, but they do have enough speed at the skill positions to run the option against similarly matched teams. I don't remember my first year record, but I had a winning season.

As for recruiting, I think most of the guys on the team pan out to be 1 star recruits, so I just stuck with recruiting 2 star players. By my second year a few of my pitches went up and it was even easier to recruit the 2 star guys. By my third year I was able to pull in a couple random 4 stars, some 3 stars, and a load of 2 stars.

Every year since then I have been able to get more 3 star recruits and my overall rating has went up, and my pitches have slowly increased.

I use the same recruiting tactic I started using in College Hoops 2K. I look at what rating my best players would be, and then recruit one above that rating. If my team is mainly 1 stars then recruiting 2 stars will make my team get better, etc.

I do the same exact thing and usually try to make Texas a pipeline state, that is what I worked on last year. So far I have one three star that is interested in me.
