Is this game too offensive minded?

I think this game is too offensive minded. You can play head to head online where you or your opponent don't have to punt the ball at all in the game.

After playing a few games online it seems like most of the time there is a change of possession is when I score or there is a fumble or Int. I dont go for 4th downs unless it is short like withing 3 yards and inside the 35 if I have to.

I know run commit is a great feature but I feel those features are just sugar coating how offensive minded this game is.

mmmm...kind of.

I think EA has it half right.

They understand that the college game, in general, is higher scoring then the NFL.

They completely jack up representing, it by neutering the front 7. That's the real problem.

The unblockable defensive lineman, or the all-american game wrecking line backer, does not exist.

its almost impossible to have a low scoring defensive battle like what we saw in real life when Texas played Nebraska.

When two top defensive teams go at it I still get high scoring games.

1. Compared to NCAA '09 this game is extremely defensive minded.

2. In user v. user games with default sliders, yes the game is too offensive minded. In dynasties, both offline and online, with the right sliders the game can be very defensive minded in its own right as opposed to just compared to NCAA '09.

Re: Is this game too offensive minded?

I've had a lot of defensive battles and low scoring games in NCAA 10. I've had some 13-7 games, 10-0 games. I had a game go into overtime with a 6-6 score. it ended in the 20's due to 4 OTs, but it was defensive in regulation at least. lol

on the flip side, there have been high scoring games as well. highest game being a 69-62 game with me as Texas Tech versus a CPU Florida. but that was a rare game.

in all my user vs. user games that I've playing, I don't thing anyone has scored over 35 points. the average user/user game in '09 was both teams scoring in the 40's. and the CPU games were ridiculous in '09.

Re: Is this game too offensive minded?

As long as you stay clear away from the default sliders, you can get some great defensive struggles.

I think the mentality you take when you play has something to do with it as well. Don't go for broke every play. There are money plays, but if you use them to get ahead quickly the CPU will go into "comeback mode" to try and even it up. Then you respond and they do as well, and before you know it it's a 49-48 game in the 4th quarter.

Good sliders and a nice set of house rules really adds to the realism of this game. This all is of course talking about playing vs the CPU. Good luck playing a defensive game online. I've had this game since 2 days BEFORE it came out and my record online is 2-1. All of that came in the first weekend. Since then I haven't played online save in Online Dynasties. Too much money plays and cheesing for me to actually have fun.

Re: Is this game too offensive minded?

This may be a touch off topic but isn't football in general too offensive minded nowadays? Look at rule changes over the past decade in college and NFL? Majority are restricting defenses ability to stop passing and offenses. Why have these rules changed well it is my opinion that it sells TV time because americans love scoring. Much the same reason soccer has never really taken off in the states.

Getting off my soapbox a bit I would wager that EA sports is more concerned with making sure offense is fun to play and exciting to sell copies of the game then gamers getting frustrated by iron curtain defenses.

My two cents
