What ever happened to the far/near formations

I remembe that this was the vogue thing in the 80's and early 90's. I have'nt seen it in years. I seen Auburn use it against Alabama once a couple of years ago. I really like this offense. Wish it was utilized in the video game more. It was fun seeing the fullback as a feature runner.

That's just the issue though. It hasn't been run effectively consistently in years. The fullback position is practically dead these days, except in the triple option offense.

For plays similar to that I'd just use the option offense playbook. You get a lot more fullback choices in that playbook.

Re: What ever happened to the far/near formations

If implemented correctly it would be the perfect Air Coryell offense. Just so many options with the more athletic guy at fullback. Could you imagine that Arkansas team from a few years ago with Hillis, McFaddennd and Jones. Maybe line em n the the T and send Jones in motion. I i remember Alabama ran it in the 80's with Ray Perkins. They would often send the halfback in motion and put him in the slot.

Bama used the FB quite a bit back in 05, if you remember- Tim Castille and Leron McClan (brother of Rolando McClan and backup RB for the Ravens)

don't think Leron wasn't Rolando's brother. But Leron didn't get the ball nearly enough. Every time he touched the ball it was special. Also Tarrant Lynch was the same way. Lynch is one of my favorite players from when i was a kid. Behind David Palmer, of course.

Le'Ron McClain is not the brother of Rolando McClain.
