"Catch in Traffic" rating is simply absurd

Why is there both a catch and a catch in traffic rating in the game? So i guess the reasoning is that a receiver can be great in the open but terrible in the middle of the field? But ive seen too many times where guys come in with B+ CIT and D CTH...what the heck is that? I'm a terrible catcher but if im quadruple covered throw me the rock??? Doesn't make much sense to me.

They should just scale down the Catch rating. Receivers who can't catch in traffic should just have a lower catch rating than guys who can. I figure if a guy like Anquan Boldin can catch in traffic he can only be better when he's open right? SO anquan (im assuming he can actually catch in traffic i dont really know) would have a high catch rating compared to a guy like Roy Williams who can catch wide open but not really in traffic.

My big beef with this is because when i throw to a receiver one on one with the corner the CIT rating kicks in and that's some ole' garbage. A high catch rating should translate into a high CIT rating. no need for a "CIT kicking in" code.

that seems logical. i didn't play last year really so i never saw anyone with a higher catch in traffic vs. catch.

There are plenty of guys who legitimately have a disparity in their ability to catch wide open passes in comparison to catches in traffic. Some, like TO, can make spectacular catches in traffic, but often loses focus on easy catches. Others, like Todd pinkston, can make the easy catch, but definitely hear the footsteps. I find that generally guys make catches they should and drop passes at a realistic rate.

I disagree, I think that Catching is a skill apart from going into traffic to get a ball.

Catching in traffic is a huge part of a receiver/tight end's game... Everyone knows the receivers that shy away from the hit/catch when the ball is contested over the middle or someone is about to crack you... Eric Decker was a prime example of a great receiver that was great in traffic.

I would like to see the ratings get even more granular.

yeah James Rodgers wouldnt be the WR he is without his catches in traffic. I would love to see more ratings. especially with QB's last year in madden they had close, medium, deep accuracy. they NEED that in NCAA, thats what seperates great QB's at all levels but in college football if you have a QB who can make the NFL throws, you have a huge advantage.

In NCAA I would go even deeper than that and cut the field into quadrants for QB and give ratings like that... we all know that some college quarterbacks can't make all the throws (10 out, 15 yard out, posts, flags, etc...) Imagine the rating system like that when you're recruiting for your offense and the future of the QB position in your dynasty...
