Obviously he's got a computer that is online. Just plug that connection into your 360 and get the updates. I'm pretty sure you don't need a Gold membership to get updates.

I would probably hot-route the WR in the slot to a short slant. If the LBs jumped for the RB then I would hit the WR, if they stayed back, then i hit the RB...

Or in this case, run all the way back for a safety! haha

How do I get the patch sign in to xbox live and put in the game and it just updates it automatically?

Yep....Once you start the game if there is a patch it will tell you an update is available..

So is silver free? I have no idea how this stuff works. I'm not really about online gaming but i'd like to get the patch. If somebody could explain this to me I'd be appreciative.
