Claystone, I'm like you..not sure if you remember me from the Madden forums but I am a huge CPU v CPU player as well.

I don't have the game yet, but try 8 min quarters and see if you get 120ish plays including sacks.

According to these numbers, it seems that the average FBS team ran around 68 offensive plays per game in 2009. Houston led the nation with 1150 off. snaps in 14 games (82.14 per game).

Interestingly enough, if you look at the numbers for 2005 you'll see that the number of plays run by the avg FBS team hasn't changed much (around 68 snaps per game). What has changed is the number of plays being run by the teams at the extreme ends of the spectrum. In 2005 only one team (USC) ran more than 1000 plays (77.38/game). In '09 there were 5 teams that did so. In 05 only 6 teams had 950+ snaps, while in 09 there were 14 squads who did so.

Much of that is due to the fact that the avg. '09 team plays an extra game compared to 2005, but the overall pace of the game has increased as well. The 2005 Trojans nation-leading pace of 77 plays per game wouldn't have broken the top 5 last season.

So the AVERAGE was 68 plays per game per team in 2009. Ok so I was a little off then, my bad. So 130-140 plays per game like Canes/Clay said. Although some games will be 120, etc.

So either 8 min or 9 min quarters would be perfect most likely.

Re: TOO MANY NO-HUDDLES

Ah yes, the latest trend in CFB...the no huddle. I've been reading through my college football preview magazines and it seems a LOT of teams will be trying this out this year. I find it quite annoying, actually. But, then again, I prefer the pro-style offense.

Re: TOO MANY NO-HUDDLES

Here's a conference by conference breakdown of plays per game by conference. Keep in mind that they have continued to change the clock rules to "shorten" the game, starting the clock when the ball is spotted after going out of bounds verse when the ball is snapped, starting the play clock when the whistle is blown dead vs when the ball is spotted.

This shows Avg Rushing, Avg Passing, Total Plays, Completions, Punt, Punt Returns, Kick Returns, Int's, Yardage in all categories and Scoring.

Basically EVERYTHING EA would need to tune their stats engine

Re: TOO MANY NO-HUDDLES

I just simmed the first week of dynasty to see how many plays per game were happening in simmed games. I only checked 7 games and there was an average of 172 plays per game (not including kickoffs) for both teams combined.

Individual teams were getting 69 - 95 plays per game.

Just thought some of you might want this info.

Re: TOO MANY NO-HUDDLES

When a team plays no huddle.. They litterally mean no huddle... They may take 80 % of their snaps without huddling

Re: TOO MANY NO-HUDDLES

For the teams that are running no huddle, are they coming out in 4 and 5 WR sets then using I Form and other formations after they no huddle? If that's the case, having WRs playing TE and FB is VERY unrealistic so I hope it's not happening.

Re: TOO MANY NO-HUDDLES

In the college game, depending on the tempo and the number of run/pass plays, etc, games usually run between 120 and 150 plays. The Rutgers/Duke total of 137 is completely normal, unless the teams ran the ball 80% of the time. Then it would be too high.
