Can't Play Online With Friends.

I'm in an online dynasty and I am playing a XBL friend in the opening game. The problem is we can't actually get it to work. We can get to the screen to choose teams, but I can't see him flipping through teams and he can't see me doing the same. We both hit ready (when it sometimes lets us) and it doesnt go. We also have tried to play ranked and unranked games normally off of dynasty and it doesnt work. Any ideas?

I've played other XBL friends before and it has worked fine. It just happens with this one guy. I have no idea what the problem could be.
