Run stopping plays for online

I usually just go with a 4-3. I still have trouble stopping the run though. Specifically outside runs. My D seems to get sucked in then they pull it outside. I try using corner blitzes and outside linebacker blitzes, but they always seem to have just enough blockers.

Outside runs and options have been hard for me to defend. What formations and/or plays stop those well?

Re: Run stopping plays for online

If they have a single WR on one side leave the corner alone with him in press coverage, have that side LB play in a short zone and move him to the edge of the line and put the safety on that side on man coverage on the RB. Move the other safety towards the middle of the field to cover the CB in case he gets beat.

Take control of the LB and if the QB goes to pass you can move him to blitz the QB. But if it's a run you have one player assigned to the RB that can go to the left or right of the line and a LB to cover the QB if he wants to take off.

You might give up some 3-5 yard runs but it helps with big runs. Play-actions can give you fits though.
