How do you do it during the game? The booklet says to press X button (360) before the play, but doing so does nothing for me. Have I missed something?

You have to press it after entering a formation on the playcalling screen.

Thank you, my friend. The phrase "before plays" led me to believe you do it before the playcalling screen.
