Re: Can someone who doesn't follow College Football enjoy this game?
You'll fall in love with college football after playing this game. I too am an NFL nut, but much prefer the college game for video games. I posted this a long time ago and I'll post it again here:

There are tons of reason for me, a much bigger fan of NFL in real life, to choose NCAA over Madden. You could definitely say that my life revolves around the NFL, but in the video game world, I like NCAA a lot more for the following reasons:
- I like playing with fictional players because playing with NFL players gets to feel like fantasy football after a year or two of player movement. It is much easier to let your imagination take over when you're talking about ficitional players exclusively down the line in dynasty mode.
- In NCAA, you feel like you get to know your recruits a lot more since you're basically going after them for a full season and there is some back and forth "conversation."
- I like the fact that you have a specific role in NCAA of head coach. In Madden, you're more or less made into a "team god."
- 119 possible opponents offers more variety each year. Each team and stadium feels different but in Madden, I feel like every game is the same. This offers variety and extends the longevity of dynasty mode so that it stays fresh.
- The challenge of having to go undefeated to win a championship where as in Madden, you could "beat the game" following an 8-8 season.
- Fight Songs
- Every opponent feels different in terms of play style: Option teams, spread teams, no huddle teams, etc. In Madden, every game felt the same.
- Recruiting is more fun and random where as in Madden, it is easy to throw around fictional dollars to get whoever you want without financial consequences. Where as in NCAA, you actually feel like you're trying to sway a person's decision.
- Madden's CBA-related rules are too fake. I.E. No restricted free agency, salary cap rules are inaccurate, etc.
- Madden feels fake the moment a player in real life gets released or traded that you're using or playing against on your video game version of that team.
- Recruiting Wars
- True Rivalry Games
- Bands instead of hearing the same 10 songs in every stadium
- Different caliber of opponent. In Madden, as I stated before, I feel like I am playing the same team every week. In NCAA, you can blow a team out 42-7 and lose your next game 42-7 depending on the quality of team you face.
- Practice mode and game-planning actually means something because of the fact that each team is so different. While it is true in Madden that each team has subtle differences, for the most part, you are playing the same quality of opponent each week except for a handful of extremely bad teams like the Rams and Lions (and even they have superstars that will kill you).
- You can fit in more seasons of NCAA than Madden over a year's span. If you're like me and play every game, this is important. Counting preseason and playoffs, you're probably playing about 22-24 games a season in Madden where as in college, the season is 12 to 14 games. What this means is you're basically losing on average 1 season of NCAA for every 2 seasons of Madden you play. I'd much rather play 9 or 10 seasons of NCAA than 5 or 6 seasons of Madden. |
