It started with Tecmo Bowl/Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES. I honestly can't remember being more in love with a video game than when I got Tecmo Super Bowl for Christmas one year. I didn't care if I didn't get another present, I just wanted this game. I took a hiatus through High School and College before I got back into gaming, and Madden 2002 on the PS2 rekindled my football gaming. No game has ever owned me like Tecmo Super Bowl, and probably never will again.

Wow... Probably officially started with Atari football. Ten Yard fight was a BIG step up for the NES. I remember that you couldn't change the colors of the teams uniforms, so I adjusted the color settings on the OLD tv to change the jersey colors. NES upgraded a bit with John Elway's football, but it got really cool when Tecmo bowl hit the market. I remember playing it in the arcade, and it was fantastic. Everything after that was pretty much a Madden title, Joe Montana football on the Genesis was okay too. I still swear by Madden 07 (Ps2) as the best overall football game to date.

definitely had the hand held football game shown above.

Basically started because I have Nebraska blood in me and watching 12-14 games a year isnt enough.

I beleive it was John Elway Football and of course Tecmo bowl.
I saw someone mention Bill Walsh College Football....I have not thought about that one in a while!
