Is there a way to know which 2/3 star will be rated like a 4?

In recruiting I often land a 3 Star player who is higher rated than several of my 4 star players. I was wondering if there is some indication of which kids will outperform their star rating, while you are still recruiting?

Look at the grades given for each area that pertains to the recruits position. If they are mostly C's or higher then they can play. If they are D's then he want be that good. Also like the above guy said, JuCo players always have higher ratings. This is to equal that they have been in school and equal what a player in their class would have that is of the same skill set. If you are recruiting 2* then I would always sign JuCo's since they come in rated higher. I have not seen a 2* that was not a JuCo that could play day one for any AQ school. I looked at a lot of players ratings in NCAA 11.

Scout them.

Star ratings are virtually meaningless to me. I use it just as a soft guide. You get rewarded for actually scouting prospects this year and I love it.

Depending on the position and my need I will look for either guys with a lot of C- and C ratings or guys with C+ or B- or higher in a few key areas.

For instance on the oline I look for good acceleration and atleast a c- in all the blocking ratings. For a QB I look for atleast B- throw power. For a WR I look for atleast B acceleration and atleast a couple C- or better skill ratings.

Also, whenever I have an open spot late in the year I fill it with an athlete as they are often dynasty changers at that level

Ditto. You need to take a look at every player's ratings. You'll find 2 stars who are better than 3-stars. Heck I've even snapped up the occasional 1-star player who was better than some of the 2 and 3 star guys.

You will find they frequently have one attribute that is in the top 5 offensively or defensively. Not sure how valid this is, but I work them in as formation subs or play them a quarter and they seem to progress quite well.
