If your a Independent can you basically schedule whoever you want?

Its been several years since I last played a NCAA Football game(though I am very hyped for NCAA Football 12, and already have it preordered.) So I don't know if their has been custom schedules in recent years, and I have not heard anything about this year, but a guy on GameFAQS said you can just schedule top 25 teams every year. Just wondering if you can do this or not?

Aren't certain rivalry games locked in NCAA 11?

You can schedule every game as an Independent, although you'll have to spend time making it consist of all top 25 teams. Reason being, every non-independent school has conference games they must play on certain dates so you'll have to find out when every top 25 teams have off weeks (most of the time the first couple of weeks has everyone) and then find which 12 top 25 teams have dates open so you can schedule each one.

Also, if your going to try this, I'd try to schedule the teams from lower rank to high. Since you don't have a conference championship game it's safer to play your last couple of games against teams you think will be in the top 2 at the end of the season because NCAA loves to skip you over in favor of undefeated conference champs regardless of your SOC.

Then again, that's saying you can go undefeated against 12 top teams.

Short Answer: Yes you can schedule all of the games yourself, which is why I like being an independent.

It's nice to be able to schedule whoever, just be careful if you are lower than a 5 star because its hard to make it to a bowl game

You can schedule whoever is available. Once you get into weeks 6-11, your choices are pretty miniscule though. I've had weeks with maybe 4 teams available before. But like someone said, teams from conferences are pretty much always taken ahead of you no matter what thanks to the awesome (please note sarcasm) poll logic. I had built up Army over about 10 seasons, and finally had put an awesome team together, and I scheduled the hardest teams I possibly could, and it didn't matter. I got passed by Hawaii who never even played a top 25 team.

So unless the poll logic is fixed for NCAA 12 it would be bad idea to go Independent.

you can schedule anyone who is not already locked in a conference game in a given week for any week as an independent team.
