Of course you can install games to a Flash drive...its the main reason a 4GB or HDD-less system became a viable option. You may need to go into Memory management on your Xbox and click on it first time to be sure it is compatible of formatted properly... after that treat it like a HDD and it runs nearly as fast or faster.

Cheap 16GB flash will give you two maybe three games installed.

Ya I have installed games to a flash drive as well like he said. Just to test if it was any faster than the HD. But the USB interface really keeps that from being faster even though the flash memory is faster itself it has to go through USB. So you are better off installing on a hard drive.

no... only flash thumb drives, it does not recognize external HDDs.
But as mentioned above, some people have figured how to get around the MS HDD and swap it. I have not tried.

It has to be a laptop hard drive. I had a old 20 GB HDD when I bought a new console, I had to pop it out of its casing and connect it to the slot in my new 360 (pretty much drop it a ton of times hoping it catches) but it works.

Don't think microsoft likes the idea too much and it worked for me, but I am also using a legit 360 HDD that they decided to make obsolete for whatever reason.
