Lol, I had the same problem initially. I played a bunch of games against the computer before going online...and I am guessing you did the same.
IMO, you need to setup the RUN with the PASS against most human opponents. Obviously, against the computer you need to setup the pass by pounding the ball.
But yeah, this works for me:
1. Start the game with a deep ball out of a running set.
2. Mix up your playcalling!
3. Options can work against human opponents.
4. Run some running plays out of passing sets.
