Go ahead and redshirt the freshman.

Don't get too caught up in OVR, gotta judge the individual ratings too.

I have one rule, when red-shirting: Do I need them now? If the answer is no, red-shirted.

Re: What's the secret to redshirting?

If the player has pretty much no chance of seeing the field then I redshirt him. Also, if I have a position like this...

TE
SR 84
SR 80
FR 71
FR 69

Then I will RS the SR who is an 80 and also the FR who is a 71.

Merged these 2 red-shirting threads together.

Re: when should you use redshirts?

I try to keep it as realistic as possible with having the following two following criteria earning you a redshirt.

1. You are a freshman

and

2. You don't break the following rotation
---- QB - 3 active
---- HB - 4 active
---- FB - 2 active
---- WR - 5 active
---- TE - 3 active
---- OL - 2 active per position
---- DE - 2 active per side
---- DT - 4 active
---- OLB - 2 active per side
---- MLB - 3 active if 4-3. If 3-4, I go 4 active
---- CB - 5 active
---- S - 2 active per slot.

My first rule is you have to be a freshman to be shirted. When you qualify for that, then you move to the second rule.

I'd love to see EA add greyshirting to dynasty. I can't count the number of times I've lost a quality player early in the season for 8 or more weeks and then still not have them when they get of the DL due to being in a doubtful status. At least if we could greyshirt players, we wouldn't lose a whole years eligibility which would be great.
That is a medical redshirt, not a greyshirt. A greyshirt has to do with recruiting

Re: when should you use redshirts?

OVR rating is a bit deceptive this year. I guess its so that madden can have an easier time translating real talent with iffy talent.

That said i redshirt all the time based on who will play. It doesnt make much of a difference in progression. I think they still have that hidden potential element to it, also your coach and winning seem to have a lot to do with it.

I had one running back who was a 99 over by his senior RS year. The next year i had a new back start at 89 break every record but not progress at all...

Re: What's the secret to redshirting?

I'll also redshirt guys where there's a good amount of talent at the position. If my LOLB position looks like this:

LB #1 who is a SR 90 OVR
LB #2 who is a FR 88 OVR
LB #3 who is a SR 85 OVR
LB #4 who is a FR 83 OVR
LB #5 who is a JR 80 OVR

I'll red-shirt both the freshmen because LB #1 will play the majority of downs and I'll sacrifice the differences in OVR rating of the back-ups if it means getting an extra year out of those two freshmen.
