Formation subs. Auto sub is way too messed up and I doubt you'd get carries to 3 backs consistently with it; 2 on a good day, maybe, if you had a lucky horseshoe.

Re: Advice for using a stable of RB's?

I'm so glad you asked! This is my favorite system to run and the most fun IMHO. Here is how I set it up if I have 3 backs like you seem to have. This brings back memories of the old Giant teams with Otis Anderson Dave Meggett, Rodney Hampton... You get the point.

Anyway, Your speed back is your third down back. He gets the least amount of carries maybe only 5 a game in shotgun draws and such. He might catch as many as 5-7 passes though, this is where his real value is. Catching passes out in the flats and on screen passes on third and long.

Your best overall back is your feature back. He is in on first and second down for most of the carries in the game and should get anywhere from 15-20 carries a game. He is your workhorse.

Your third back is your "keep my best back fresh in the 4th back" He might just have one series in the first half but in the third quarter, he might play two series just to keep my number on back healthy and fresh for the forth quarter. 7-10 carries a game.

That's how I like to do it anyway. Have fun, having a three headed monster is the most fun I have while playing these games.

My advice is to play the game in a normal manner. A couple will get injured so your third stringer should get plenty of PT

lol

Re: Advice for using a stable of RB's?

As most people have said here is the best way to make a 3 back system work.

Starting / Best HB - Pick out your best and hopefully most balanced back and have your main ball carrier giving him 15+ carries a game

Short Yardage HB - If you have a power back that has good truck and breaking tackles. Use formation subs and put him in with all the power formations you have HB like Goaline, 2 TE's etc. I like to make this person a TD specialist type of guy. You can sub him in some at FB. If its 3rd and 1 then I'll give this guy the ball.

Change of Pace - Use formation subs again and put him in on your shotgun formations and maybe some other 3 and 4 WR sets if you want to. This guy will get most of his touches on screens, draws and catches on 3rd down.

Thanks guys, formation subs and situational subbing sounds like the way to go. Can't wait to do some work.
