If you're putting in OLBs, would it be much different than a 3-4? If you run an actual 3-4, the number of different looks and plays is probably at least 10x as much as the 5-2. There's even the 3-4 predator which has 1 of the OLBs with his hand in the dirt.

You're absolutely correct, I just used it as variant of the 3-4. It fared slightly better against the run and for pass rushing, and I liked the old fashioned look of it. Nothin' like some Manball.

I've had a lot of success with the 5-2 with 3 DTs and then 2 OLBs on the edges. Then putting 2 strong safeties at the LB position and two free safeties deep. Its good for the 3rd and short plays and those plays from the 10-5 yard line on either side of the field.
