Try removing the outer-most ring. I think it will give the logo a more clean/modern look

heres 3 options. i like it without the outermost ring! now just can't decide about the maple leafs. i feel like they have to stay to remind myself it is canada.

That's tough.. I like the maple leafs; it gives your team a good secondary color, but so do the mountains in the background. I like the two without the second ring tho, just my opinion.

Yeah, I'd say #2. The outermost ring gives you 4 colors, especially if you use the Leaf.

Dark Blue-Grey-Light Blue-Red. Removing the outer ring gives you a nic 3 color set (No Dark Blue).

I APPRECIATE THE HELP. im also working with a swordfish now. trying to avoid marlins. any suggestions??

Raleigh already has a major college team...that wears Red. Atleast Richmond doesn't have a Division 1-A football playing school. Richmond Venom sounds tight. A swordfish but no Marlins...you could use what you said "Swordfish" or "Spearfish" or simply something oceanic like Mariners.

Swordfish could be the mascot. Or Blue Fins, Sailfish, spearfish, etc.
