Re: Recruiting for Spread Option Offense

Thinking about it, I may run this type of offense as USF, and then have a more tradition pro style offense with my rebuild. I'll play around with Oregon tonight, but as others have noted, running out of the gun seems MUCH improved. And plugging Athletes into this offense seems like it would be fun.

I have never ran an offense like this before (usually pro style or passing based spread). Do you guys who run it typically use a lot of no-huddle or not really?

The fact that it seems as though running out of the gun will actually be legit is a great thing (though it's about time).

I personally do not use the no huddle feature. It is so ridiculous how it looks like a Chinese fire drill every time I just can't even watch it. I only go no huddle when I need to hurry up. I can just go to the play call screen and only take a couple seconds off now as it is so really it's more efficient and I can get the correct personnel in that I want.

I no huddle all the time except for incomplete passes and when I need to change personnel (IE switching from 3 wide to 4 wide).

It really is a fun offense. I didn't seem to have many problems running out of the gun using this offense in NCAA 11, and I even put up near triple digits on a user one game running no huddle and calling audibles at the LOS. For some reason I just didn't get the same success vs users or CPU running this last year. I'm looking forward to trying it out again come Friday though because it's a great offense when you know how to run your base plays and then the constraint plays off of those. I normally do like to adjust my playbook to my personnel and don't run the same playbook more than one year but I always end up coming back to the spread option philosophy.

I will add one other note on the slot WRs. I started to go after the higher route running WRs , 90+, because of the nature of their routes in the offense. Even with 80ish speed they tend to get tons of separation out of their cuts on routes making those quick outs and other short routes much easier. They also tend to have high ratings in carrying as well.

Re: Recruiting for Spread Option Offense

I'm really glad I posted this. Thanks for all the input. Just off playing the demo and being K state for about 20 straight games. I do think I would put a little more importance on the TE than most of the comments here say but I printed this thread out and I'm gonna use all your input. Thanks again.

No huddle except for incomplete or long passes. Forgot to mention your players need high stamina for no-huddles.

Now K state already has the personnel to run it but I wanted to do a good job of bringing in the right kind of players to keep it going for years to come. Gimme your opinion of the top three attributes to look for at each position.
I don't think speed is the be all end all. I emphasize acceleration over anything. Some of the high speed guys can be very hard to get, especially if you're less than 5* prestige.
