Slip screen or rb in the flats is your friend

Syfic has it right. you catch him with a screen just right, it could be 6, same with rb sliding out.

Re: I cannot stop the blitz (passing).

  • Run "replace" routes with backs or receivers to sit in the void where the blitz is coming from.
  • Hot route your receivers to shorter routes.
  • Roll out away from pressure.
  • Run flood routes.
  • Screens.
  • Go out of shotgun to buy some time.
  • Pass down the seam (if LBs are blitzing this should be wide open).
  • Flood the seam with two verticals on either side. A safety has to go with one, a LB will have to cover the other.
  • Motion your receivers to the opposite side. This forces the man coverage alignment to pull defenders to the opposite side of the blitz. You then have someone isolated on the blitz side. I'll take one-on-one with half the field to play with anyday.
  • Five-Wide Formation and spread the field with receivers as much as possible (don't bunch). Force the man-to-man mismatch.

I play with Michigan and if I'm getting blitzed I spread the field and throw quick passes along with screens. If you looking to go down field I would hot route your tight end to block along with your backs and slide the protection.

Re: I cannot stop the blitz (passing).

There is a play in the shotgun formation in split offset called the deep curl. If the DB's press and/or there is a blitz called you can dump to the HB on the angle route; if not then the WR's running the deep curls usually provide enough separation on the curl route that you can pass to safely without an INT.
