ND ran all kinds of formations back then. Alot of I formation, ACE, Far & Near, Veer, Full house or T- Formation and some wishbone. Not much shotgun if any. ND was option heavy with Tony Rice as QB.

Off the cuff....take a look at Air Force's offense. They run a lot of different formations, including option formations and two-back sets. You'll have to do some tweaking, but it might be a good base.
