What week do you start looking for guys with a low locked %?

I start looking for guys around week 5 and with less then 20% locked. I use to have house rules that prevented me from adding recruits but since finding a way to make the CPU a challenge without moving sliders to kill ratings I have gotten rid of my house rules.

So around week 5, I have lost out on a few guys by that point or removed players from my board, I go into the all prospects page. I sort the locked % to show the lowest. I start looking through all the players that interest me that are under 20%. I add them to my board and start going after them. I can get 1 out of 4 most of the time.

I find that if you start around week 5 or 6 then you have the best recruits. If you wait too long, say week 10, there will be a lot of 3 stars in the mid 60s.

Week 5 also gives you enough time to gain ground before the recruiting period ends. If you don't sign the play in season then you should have a huge lead for the off season period. The CPU has offered the recruits they want by week 5 so building a 10 week lead is essential to landing those over looked recruits.

Thanks. Very good advice. I think I waited too long to search for the low lock% players. My strategy was to wait till my original players on my board committed and then move those points over to newer players. I'm going to try this out next season. Thanks so much!

Re: Recruiting Tips (NCAA 14)

If you're grabbing the recruits midseason that no one else recruits, keep in mind that this is the easiest way to break the game in terms of your team's talent level vs. other teams. JBrew can do this because he does other stuff to combat this. For everyone else it should be a house rule to never recruit these guys (it's one of mine and I know a bunch of others use that rule too). There are enough 5*s and tons of 4*s as well as best guys (#1 QB, #1 HB, etc) that don't get recruited. If you cherry pick these guys your team's gonna be a 99 OVR while the best CPU teams are mid-90s.

Re: Recruiting Tips (NCAA 14)

I will limit myself to one low-lock-% 4 or 5 star recruit added week 7 or after per season. However, I only do so if the recruit is an ATH and my pitches are B-'s or above. I justify it because other programs see him as unfit for their system and the recruit feels our program meets his ideals. I've also limited it to recruits who are in-state.
