Option Advice

Playing for the NCG in my OD in 30 or so minutes. The guy I'm playing does nothing but option plays out of the shotgun and pistol. I run out of the 3-4. Any last minute tips before we play?

I'm planning on aggressive on attack QB and option and double teaming the RB with backers. He usually throws around 10 times a game.

I usually audible my defensive line to contain. Take control of the strong side where the option is going to, and play it that way. Wouldn't worry about the throwing that much unless he starts ripping you. Play close the the first down marker and force him to beat you underneath.

As a player who does the same, I recommend matching up with the qb and both backs. Saftey blitzes are usually good against the spread option, at least against me.

Again, the key is having matching backers/ safeties against the running guys. Good defenses would probably be press man, to have corners close to the LOS, man coverage, 1 deep Saftey an the other Saftey in the box. 4-4 is a good defense to run.
