Just stopped working randomly. After the 1st one I thought hey defects happen in all electronics, but when the second one did it too in the same time frame, that was enough for me to say forget it, never buying Roxio again.

Comes with a custom cable in the package. Supports all audio and up to 1080i video. All you have to do is hold the power button on your PS3 for about 5 seconds for it to register.

Found a YouTube video explaining it.

Ahh, I see what you are saying. If you have an HDMI hook up on your TV you will be good to go. If you don't you would need an converter for HDMI to component.

How it normally works is:

PS3 ------> Elgato HD ----(USB)----> PC/MAC

Then the HDMI would split off from the Elgato to the TV. So it's more of a passthrough device.

Of course at that point it would probably be more price advantageous to just go with a Hauppauge. Depends on how much a converter would cost.

So it works like this then?

And I would need an HD TV to be able to connect from the elgato to my TV right? Since my TV doesn't have HDMI anywhere. I was planning in getting an HD TV someday anyway.

So if I want to move my laptop around when I'm not gaming, can I simply unplug the Elgato? By just plugging back into my Macbook, will the setting be saved, ready to go?

Yeah just unplug the USB cord and plug it back up when you want to record.
