do i really need to talk about the longhorns success and recruiting prowess the last several years.
Are you comparing Texas to USC? The biggest difference being that USC has turned the last couple of top recruiting years in to a BCS win and a split National Title. When Texas even sniffs playing for a national title then they can talk about being on the same level as USC, when it comes to recent recruiting years.
1998
USC 8-5
Texas 9-3
1999
USC 6-6
Texas 9-5
2000
USC 5-7
Texas 9-3
2001
USC 6-6
Texas 11-2*
2002
USC 11-2
Texas 11-2
2003
USC 12-1
Texas 10-3*
USC fans can have their split NC but don't start make your self out to be some elite program that has some sort of established dominance. I don't want to get into the debate of which conference is tougher but having a conference would give the Big 12 the edge if we say that the Pac 10 as a whole is equal to the Big 12. In 2003 and 2001 the Big 12 championship has kept Texas out of a BCS bowl. How can you discredit Texas success (on the field & off season recruiting) by just looking at when you team has been on the up for just two years?
Well since we are talking about this years Top 10 then we must be talking about recent years. What has Texas's recruiting gottem them. Nothing. BTW despite the Pac 10 being "weak" since you brought up 2001, don't forget it was Pac 10 champ Oregon spanking Big 12 champ Colorado in their bowl game. And Texas last year lost their Bowl game to a Washington St. team that got waxed by SC.
In the here and now Texas is not on the same plane as USC.
Don't forget Pete Carroll and his recruiting have only been at USC for a few years, and in those years he accomplished what Texas couldn't winning a national Title, not to mention easily handling the last 2 Big 10 champs in their 2 recent Bowl games.
