Ok:

Go to Settings
Then Network Settings
Then IP Addresses

Make sure under Configuration it says Automatic as apposed to Manual

Now go Back a page then go to DNS Servers Under Configuration make sure it says Automatic as apposed to Manual

Go Back a page once again and now go into PPPOE Settings this should be set to OFF as I'm assuming if you do use this its allready configured on your router.

This should do it, I hope!

Ok ochoko i did everything u said and it then i hit connect....

It then went to a screen and it showed 2 green buttons like it completed that stage of connecting then before the third one came up it went to a screen and said Xbox Live is updating your system. Then it did the same thing it did before... it said "Xbox live is not responding please try again later"

anything else i should be doing...?

Oh guys will you please also tell me what DHCP is and how to set it..... i have no clue what u guys mean by that.

I still havent done that yet and maybe thats the key!

DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. What it basically does is gives out IP adresses to nodes requesting one that are connected to it. If your router is set up to default it should be running DHCP.

Ya never know though, you may have it set up as static and in that case you will have to give the Xbox a static IP.

How do i change it though..... like where are router settings, as you can tell im not a computer person at all!! heh

To me it sounds like i have static and need to change it.

Click here to go to the dlink support page. Pick your router from the drop down list.

I don't know, maybe you need a firmware upgrade, or what above said, need to turn on DHCP.

Try the above link, I think you have to enable Gaming Mode on your router.

Thx for your help daniel but i have version 3.36 firmware and thats compatible and i have gaming mode enabled so it has to be something with the Xbox live update server...

Me and ochoco tried all night to fix it but nothing worked
I MEAN NOTHING.....

But suggestions are appreciated and thx daniel for your help!
