Entering Player Names

First of all, I sincerely apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I didn't know where else to put it and some other members may have the same question.

Can I use a standard mini-DIN (6 prong) keyboard (Windows XP) to enter player names into my Playstation 2 if I get a USB adapter?... Or do I have to buy a specific USB keyboard made for Playstation 2? Hopefully you tech guys will know what I am talking about. Simply put, I don't want to go out and buy a USB keyboard just to type in player names. I would rather use my PC keyboard and use an adapter to change my keyboard from a mini-DIN to a USB. Is this possible?

Once again I am really sorry if this is not the place for this, but I am strugglin' here.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Entering Player Names

I don't know if the mini-DIN to a USB adapter will work, but any usb keyboard should work. There is nothing special about the ps2 ones.

Yes! I had several keyboards laying around, so instead of spending $20 bucks on a new USB keyboard I went to Radio Shack and bought a PS/2 to USB connector. Thing worked perfectly.

You can get USB keyboards for $10...don't know where you live, but I'm sure if you can find a small mom and pop PC store, you'll find one.

No keyboards work with the Xbox, do they?

Re: Entering Player Names

There is a USB adapter available through Xbox.com. I don't have the link. It was made available with Phantasy Star Online, so you could use a keyboard to chat.

However, a game needs to be specifically programmed to use the keyboard. Since the Xbox USB connector is so rare, I doubt EA coded that support.

Re: Entering Player Names

A simple radio shack adaptor worked for me last year, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work this year...
