What does the "Importance Rating" that players have mean?

I just noticed this today when I was looking to redshirt some guys. I wanted to look at their return rating to see if they would help on special teams, and when I scrolled over to the far right on the ratings screen, I saw that each player has an "Importance Rating" just after their stamina and injury ratings. I have no idea what this rating does. Is it maybe related to the likelihood they will transfer?

This question has sat here, unanswered, for quite a bit of time, so I thought that I would chime in. Please keep in mind this is only guess work, but I get the feeling that an "Importance Rating" would be how important that player is to your team as per the system you run.

Not sure if this is correct or not, but I got tired of seeing this here and nobody responding to it. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Pretty sure it's the impact block rating but I haven't looked at the ratings in depth in a while

I have no clue what the importance rating is (he's not talking about impact blocking). It doesn't show up in the depth chart or edit rosters screen. I've only seen it in the redshirt screen.

Wow, I've honestly never noticed that. Now I'm genuinely curious myself.

I would guess it's the importance to the team based on place in depth chart and talent

Like someone mentioned, maybe it's a combo of the player's OVR and the depth at that position. What's your LE's OVR in your example? He has an 88 importance rating and your 99 OVR FS has an 83. Do you have more depth at FS than at LE?
