brewer, if you have the right parts, its so darn easy. but you need a torx wrench t10 and t20. you can get it for 5 bucks or look around in your toolbox.

other than that, you unscrew like 9 screws, lift up the HDD and the DVD-Rom and it's right there.

I've got a question. with the new by pass wire, the fan now is plugged in with the main power (the harddrive and the main power board(sp?) right?

Yep or you can just plug the fan in where the NIVIDIA fan use to be on older consoles!

the newer ones they leave the fan out (which leaves you a open plug in)which is why its essential you have the fan running faster!

Re: Serial numbers on the back on the disc (slowdown related)

I bought the $4.99 enhanced cooling kit.

It comes with a pass through power adapter to provide the case fan with additional voltage. Basically the fan originally used to be plugged into the motherboard for power, but with this adapter, you can unplug it from the mother board and use the adapter to have it be powered by the main powering unit, along with the harddrive.

You basically unplug the HardDrive power cord, and use this new adapter which has wires for the power for the fan.

Easier said than done.....

Quick question regarding all of this? Is it absolutely necessary to pump up the fan speed. My xbox was manufactured in May of 2004. I'm curious if the games will run just as smooth if you only apply the heatsink to the chip without pumping up the fan rpms?
