Tiered bowl system and making the bowls mean more and other things

I want to know what everyone thinks about coming up with a system to make all the Bowl games better . I had an idea to break down into 3 or 4 tiers and “punish” the big schools for appearing in the lower tier and rewarding smaller schools that make the bigger bowls.

Here are my 4 tiers :

Tier 1- New Years 6 and National Championship
- pretty obvious here. Cotton , Orange, Chick Fil A, Fiesta , Rose , Sugar and National Championship.

Tier 2- Capital One, Outback, Tax Slayer, Liberty, Music City, Buffalo Wild Wings

Tier 3 - Belk, Beef o Brady, Heart of Dallas, Meineke, Little Caesar’s, Sun

Tier 4- all the rest

Now , as for Conference pairings:

Tier 1- leave as is.
Tier 2- Power 5 no lower than 5th in conference. G5 Top 2 only .
Tier 3- Power 5 no higher than 6th , G5 3rd and 4th only or Independent.
Tier 4- see tier 3 for P5 and G5 5th-8th , Independent and military schools.

Now for prestige edits :
- if a 4-6 star program is in a Tier 3 or 4 bowl, deduct a star every year they appear in these tiers. However, if they are in a Tier 1 or 2 bowl the next year add a star back. Also pro rate depending on which tier. Example: 6 star school in a Tier 4 bowl, deduct 3 stars .

If a 4 or 5 star team is in a Tier 1 bowl , add 1 Star only. Do not add stars to 1-3 star teams unless they at least make Tier 2

- likewise if a 1-3 star team is in a Tier 1 or 2 bowl, add stars. Max add Is 3. If a 1 Star is in the NY6, add 3 stars to make them a 4.

This I think affects recruiting especially with players who have Program prestige as one of their 3 pitch points .
I think you can manually change the star ratings under team data . I will try it

Yes you will need a word processing or notepad app or paper to write on to keep up with what changes to make to what teams but it will make it more interesting and I think it will give more meaning to the lower bowls If teams can upgrade their prestige by making higher tier bowls
Or you could go with the conference approach in addition to adding and deducting stars. If a 4-6 star team is in a Tier 3 or 4 bowl, deduct 3 stars and kick them down to a lower conference. And move up smaller teams for having great seasons.

One other thing to consider though is strength of schedule. If a 1 Star goes 12-0 and has a SOS in the 100s I would not reward that

You may want to consider what the bowl payouts were in 2013. Here would be the tiers if you grouped them by payout. NOTE: I did not change Tier 1 despite the Capital One's payout exceeding the Chick-Fil-A ($3,97,000 ACC and $2,930,000 SEC) and Cotton ($3,375,000)

Tier 2: Capital One ($4,550,000), Gator ($3,500,000), Buffalo Wild Wings ($3,350,000), Alamo ($3,175,000), Outback ($2,500,000), Russell Athletic ($2,275,000)
Replaces the Liberty and Music City with the Alamo and Russell Athletic

Tier 3: Holiday ($2,075,000), Sun ($2,000,000), Music City ($1,837,500), Pinstripe [Not in Game] ($1,800,000), Texas [Meineke] ($1,700,000), Belk ($1,700,000), Liberty ($1,437,500)
Replaces Beef O'Brady's, Little Ceasar's, and Heart of Dallas with Holiday, Music City, and Liberty

Tier 4: AdvoCare ($1,150,000), Heart of Dallas ($1,100,000), Las Vegas ($1,100,000), Military ($1,000,000), Fight Hunger ($925,000), BBVA Compass ($900,000), GoDaddy ($750,000), Little Ceasars ($750,000), Hawaii ($650,000), Armed Forces ($600,000), Beef O'Brady's ($537,500), Poinsettia ($500,000), New Orleans ($500,000), New Mexico ($456,250), Famous Idaho Potato( $325,000)

Thanks. I might try that.
