Keeping a player's attributes at there highest?

Is it possible to keep a player at their highest potential without having to keep doing the drills? A got Brees up to his highest (88) with the WR/DB 1on1, thinking it would last at least until the next game. But after I did the next set of drills, Brees was back down to a 71 the next day! I figured if I got someone up to their potential, they would stay there.

Is it different during the regular season? Its really frustrating.
