Wow... it was easy to lose track of those draft picks... lol

I just got in to Head Coach 09, despite the fact that I've had it since Madden release day. I was having a lot of fun with Madden, then my franchise froze, and won't let me continue it. So, I figured it was a good time to crack open Head Coach, since I hadn't played it since the first week and only did so for a short amount of time then.

I started a dynasty with the Lions in an attempt to try to rebuild them a little. I made some swell off-season moves. I pulled in Marion Barber, Ken Hamlin, and some good O-linemen. Then I figured I'd check out what draft picks I had early so I could figure out who I should draft...

OH NO!! No first round or second round pick! I completely forgot about compensation for UFA's and forgot to even check if any of my signings were UFA's.

I traded my way back into the first round and drafted Derrick Harvey. I made some other moves in the draft as well to move up and down.

So I'm at the beginning of my season, and I check out my draft picks again... somehow I traded away ALL BUT ONE of my 2009 selections... hahaha. And it's a sixth rounder.

So I think I may re-start this career and keep an eye on stuff like that. Also, I was too over-eager and nabbing some FA's and failed to realize there were players later on that would be more beneficial to my team and goals.

Seems fun thus far, though.

Indeed. lol

Anyways this is nothing like madden, here draft picks are WAAAAAYYYY better than free agents and avoid trading for probowlers. They will cost you a lot and you could miss out on some nasty players. Example I drafted a RB that plays just like LaDainian Tomlinson on the 3rd round. I got a Guard on the 4th round that is a 92 overall with like 95 ptential, as a rookie!!! Protect those draft picks with your life. lol If you do your scouting properly (if the rookie's comparison is to that of LaDainian Tomlinson chances are he is going to be a beast) than you will build a monster team. Right now I am using the Bears and thanks to my drafting skills I got me about 9 to 11 players that are 90+ petentail and are dirt cheap thanks to their rookie contracts.

I did the same thing without even noticing last night with the Texans. I was just using this as a trial offseason before really jumping into the game and it taught me a VERY valuable lesson.
