    D-Day....I mean draft day....

I just started another career with the cheifs. Im entering my 1st draft.(Ozzie Jones draft) Im using the steelers smash mouth offensive system, and the Patriots pass rush "D"

Ive a few trades up to this point. I traded Tony Gonzalez and gotten a 2nd rd this year, and a 1st rd the next. Ive also made other minor trades, like Tomba Hali, Jamaal Charles( Which the Panthers gave me a future 3rd, and 6th, which i didnt expect a 3rd rd pick for a RB who is rated 66, with 77 potential in my scheme. I took it.) I traded Glenn Dorsey on draft day, to help solidify other needs, and I traded backup LB's for late rd pics. Why i traded Dorsey, he really didnt fit it with what I like to do. A bit undersized for my system. and his potential was a 88 i think....

And mind you the cheifs dont have that great of talent. Im not expecting that much of successful season. But I have set into my mind that im going to draft QB Joe Kain(Big Ben Roethelesberger). So through out the off-season i dont make to much of an attempt to get a QB, or trade for one. I keep Damon Huard, and thats about it. When I look at the mock draft, Joe Kain is slated around my pick, #11. They had him go 9th. So theres still a chance that im going to land my franchise QB.

Im happy at this point, i get my QB. So I handle freeagency they way I wanted to. Not to many signing, just signings that are smart, and that wont hurt my cap. Im doing good. I have 40 million dollars of cap space going into the draft. EXCELLENT!!!

I do my scouting the way I do, which i do a amazing job, and save the game when it says draft day 1.

Normally I like to play around with the draft and see what situations happen with the first 12 or so picks. But i skipped that this time. I was just excited to know that my franchise QB will be there, and I will be of to a good start. At this point I head in. I have pick 11, the dolphins have 1st overall, and the Bears have 2nd overall. I use Pick-the-Pick feature for the whole draft, to make sure that the player i want isnt in the first 10 names, if they are, i have to trade up to get em. Thats how the draft in this game works. So i pick the pick with the dolphins, they dont take my QB. I pick the pick with the Bears, and they have "My QB" at #1, rated 96. Im hoping they wont pick him, yeah right, like there going to do what i say. They take my QB.

I quit, and reload, and try again...SAME RESULT...DAM!!!

I quit and reload again, I try to trade up with the Dolphins, they dont want to trade at all, so i add players to the trading block. I added Larry Johnson, LT Brandon Albert, Damon Huards, Dewayne Bowe, Derrick Johnson...lets just say alot of players...

I try to trade up again, and the Phins aint having it...DAM!!!!

I try to trade up to take the bears pick(2nd overall), and they dont want anything to do with me. At this point im thinking that I have to move on without my franchise QB...BUT WAIT I SAY......!!!

I quit and reload, and I aquire Drew Brees for Glenn Dorsey(he was officially traded during the draft) a future 3rd rd and a future 4th rd i think) not a bad deal. So im thinking I can trade Brees to the bears now...and get my QB. that didnt work, they still drafted Kain, then I try it again, and but brees on the block. I try to trade up with Miami, failed!!!Bears...failed!!! So i quit reload, and adjust my draft board that i have hand written.

Now, i need a RG, my love for Kain is over, there is no way im getting him. There is a RG named Scott Burke, really talented, and potential of 95. I need a ROLB, and a LE bad....I think to myself, I can always get a RG in later rounds, I cant always find a great 3-4 LE. And the LE I wanted is Domi Somanu...95 potential. its dam near impossible to find 3-4 ends in this game, at least to my experience and knowledge. Also i need a pass rushing OLB, so i decide that Mister Wright with 93 potential is better. So I have to get my LE, and ROLB now. The RG, i can try to address later.

I have pick 11, i drade down to the Pats, and they give me there future 1st, and 2nd, with a 3rd this year. I jump at it. But wait i have no 1st rd pick now.(I have 3 for the following year) I trade up to 19 and grab Mister Wright(AHHHH, mission accomplished, i only gave up the pats future 1st, a 4th and Brode Croyle. Works for me.) then at 20 i trade up, and this is where i trade Glenn Dorsey, with a future 5th, and 4th. I take LE Domi Somanu. YESSSSSS!!!!!!!. I didnt even give up that much, and i still have plenty picks to spare. I go ahead and see the RG Scott Burke get taken 30th overall. Im not sweatin it, I later in the 2nd rd draft MLB Freddie Bates...anyway I had a great draft, and addressed alot of needs

I guess what Im trying to point out is the trouble i had trying to get my QB. And there was no way around it. I have to settle with Huard for now. But at least i was able to upgrade my LE spot, and my ROLB(pass rusher LB). Two positions hard to find as it is.

I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT DRAFT TROUBLE YOU HAVE HAD...ANY AND ALL..I HAVE ALOT MORE TO SHARE, BUT THIS ONE IS MORE RECENT, AND FRUSTRATING. I APOLOGIZE FOR WRITING SO MUCH....TRUELY....

I don't have too many troubles, you seem to do a ton of trading. the only trading I do is down and for future picks. I like to scout my players but nearly all of my top players are in the late rounds and I always get me a ton of gems. With that "philosophy" I usually suck for the first and may be second year but after that all of my teams turn into complete power houses.

Thats the thing. I dont like to trade that much. But if a player doesnt fit what im trying to do, its either release him( and get nothing for him) or trade him and get "some value" in return...what you think? I love to trade back in the draft, i stockpile picks, and save money. But trading is not my thing. I just wanted to rid the players that didnt fit in with my vision.

        You would do the same....

I agree. I always try to get something for a player that I know I'm either going to release or bench to bring along a better prospect. Eeven a 7th round pick is better than nothing because it can allow you to get a draft gem under contract for longer than 1 year.

However, I haven't been getting very many great deals. It seems tough to get a 1st round pick for even some of my 90+ guys. I'm using the Cowboys so I don't know if its Jerry Jones as GM that keeps screwing me or what. I drafted Ozzie Jones and went to trade him (92 overall at the time) after 1 year and could only get 2nd and 4th round picks. The best deal I've been able to do is get a 1st and 3rd for Tony Romo.

It could be the Gm that affects that. But also it could be what the other team needs, and they value that they think the player is worth. If you notice, while you negotiate a trade, it only shows you a certain draft pick or player....and then request something else, but even then there are only a certain number of picks....its all about value, and also, how that player fits there philosophy.

              I see.

Well, I've got another one for you. When a CPU team inquires about a trade, it shows draft picks that they are willing to give up. Is there any way to add a player from the CPU team +/- draft picks?

You can choose to request a certain package and sometimes they will have players available to trade for.

I like to go with a baseball type approach with trades in the fact that I will trade a guy entering their last year for draft picks so I can replace them. Would be pretty cool if we got compensatory pics in the game but oh well.

the only way you can see a player or get a player, if only that team has put that player on the treading block. otherwise...no...
