Salary Cap

Hi just been looking at my Salary Cap Status at the end of Pre-Season 08 and im rather confused, let me explain and see if anyone can shed any light on it.

Cap Room

2008 - 15.32
2009 - 13.88
2010 - 29.06
2011 - 38.31

Potential Incentives - 1.5
Next Year Penalties - 600k

Why the drop in 2009 when ive forecast that 7.6m will come off with player out of contract and the NFL Cap should increase no?

Re: Salary Cap

Couple things might be going on.

Cap Penalties, is probably the problem.
For some reason when I traded Tony Gonzalez on my team it didn't show any cap penalties for the following year. But they were still there. The penalties didn't show up until the year was over.

the cap penalties you're seeing is for the current year. It won't show you the following year's penalties for some reason.

The only other possibility is you have a lot of guys coming up on their last year of their contract. A lot of contracts are backloaded and the last year is the most expensive. You might have to cut some dead weight, or make some trades. You should also consider trading down next draft so you can get cheap players.

Re: Salary Cap

Thanks for the reply. Im sure it isnt the trade issue as I made a point of trading players with no signing bonus. I will check the players with 2 years left on there contract to see if they are back loaded or not.
By the way it with the cowboys if that helps
