    Felix Jones

Anyone found the key to using this guy? I'm with the cowboys and he just isnt the back Barber is 2 seasons in. Cant break tackles, doesnt run forward into the holes sometimes running backwards!!
Does he improve or are you just better with power backs than speed?

    Re: Felix Jones

use him on pitches and sweeps..one of the keys to success in this game is a balanced attack..the game rewards conservative realistic playcalling and not picking the same plays over and over (not saying you do)..that goes with any player

with that being said, make sure your team hb philosophy is in order with how you are using him..and make sure you call the right plays at the right time to use his shiftiness..don't try to run him in between the tackles until you get his rating up and he shows you success in the other areas more suited to his style of play.

He made the Pro Bowl as a KR/PR for me, I've got him on the Dolphins as a back-up and 3rd down back for Ronnie Brown, and he's definitely better on outside runs and runs from Shotgun. He's also a decent receiving back.

My team philosophy at HB is set to "speed" but thinking of changing it to "balanced" season end. This affects Jones pot by -5.
Regarding running him outside on toss/sweep plays ive tried and he gets of there and turns to run back towards the qb. That 99 speed is nowhere to be seen but this could be my offensive line maybe?
How do you guys build your OL do you pay top money for all 5 positions, mine is solid at guard/centre with Andrews 93, Gurode 92, Davis 92 but im still using Free 88 and Martens 88 at tackle but run blocking is poor maybe high 70's

On the whole I spend more money on my O line than anywhere else. When I am scouting rookies for the draft I look at run blocking and pass blocking in addition to the obvious stuff (size, durability, strength...stuff like that) The average salary for my o-line is 4.5 m per year, except for my RT and C who are still under their rookie contracts. The way I look at it is a great 0-line can make a good qb and rb look great...while a bad one can make great backs look bad.

Maybe I need to invest in some good tackles then to go with the guards

The O-Line is more important than the back in this game. If you've got a dominant line, you can run all over anyone, no matter who your back is. If not, your back is gonna look like a high schooler.

                Re: Felix Jones

i drafted him with the bears, and had the most success using him as a brian westbrook type back...catching lots of passes out of the backfield and a good mix of running inside and outside. success is a term i use loosely though, as it was very limited at best.

                  Re: Felix Jones

So it isn't just me... I am in the 3rd season and Jones still isn't producing. There is no hope running him inside and the best bet is sweeps and pitches outside.

He is pretty good once he turns the corner, but if he gets hit before then, down he goes for a loss. He also spends a lot of time injured. Barber is still the starter but I have a 3rd string RB that can do it all and I am considering moving him up even though he has a lower rating than Jones.

I will experiment subbing Jones into the formations that tailor to passing and outside runs like the shotgun and triple formations and let Barber stay in for I formations.

                    Re: Felix Jones

I am so unhappy that i drafted jones in the second round of my jets chise. I figured he was a great value pick there, but the guy is a bum in this game. I thought i was getting the future for my franchise at the position, but the guy has gotten a season ending injury in 2 of the 3 seasons. And averaged under 3 yards a carry the season he played.

I have a dominant o-line of all 85+ players, the boy just does not seem to be able to run.

                    (I sim the games btw)

if you coach the games, the key for speed backs like him is to do mostly streches and tosses. for me, guys like felix suck when you rush them down the middle.

                          Re: Felix Jones

Update: I finally got Felix to work.

I previously had him subbing in for Barber whenever Barber got fatigued. But when he got in, he didn't do much. Well, I ended up trading Barber to the Bucs for a first round pick and traded a 2nd and 3rd to the Vikings for Adrian Peterson. Nobody wanted Felix so I had to do something to improve my running game.

After this, I had to change up the lineup to keep Peterson fresh (he has major injury issues). So Felix got assigned as the 3rd down back. Having him on 3rd downs works because its the down where teams expect the pass, and draws/pitches to the outside work well on 3rd down.

Ever since I traded for Peterson, our offense runs a lot more in the first half than before, with Felix always playing 3rd down. This combo allows both backs to stay fresh for the second half where they really get their production. After the 3rd, I take Peterson out and let Felix have the 4th quarter. This method seems to work and both backs have gotten over 100 yards each the last two games and seem to break at least one big run in the second half. It would have been 3 weeks but Peterson got hurt in the 2nd quarter of his first game after getting 60 yards in the first half.

The best part? The first round pick that I got from the Bucs was actually a pick they got from the Bengals, and right now, the Bengals are in last place with 3 games to go....so I should end up with #1 overall next draft.

Do you have him returning kicks? He puts up probowl numbers there.
