Are they more difficult to develop than other positions? All other positions I have are progressing nicely, but I haven't been able to make any headway with my tight ends. My OC and WR coach don't have great ratings, but my tight end hasn't moved very far in progression.

Same with me. If anyone has any advice to help here, it would be great. Are they more difficult to develop than other positions? At this point, I've been just using FA TE's, like Clark, Gonzalez and Witten. -

Re: Developing Tight Ends
I've got nothing for ya. I picked the only future 50 TE and he hasn't progressed a point since the end of training camp - 5 years ago. Given that he has four Pro Bowl trophies on his mantle, you'd think he might have gained one of the three points he needed to max out.Comment

I don't know what's up with TEs.
I've drafted two. My first tight end that I drafted last year was a Kellen Winslow Clone, and his Potential is 91. He started at like 79 and is now at 81. Very slow progression.
My second TE, I think is another Kellen Winslow Clone, I drafted him this season. His potential is 88, and I have him as my second TE. He started at about 75, and is already at 80. My GM just asked me last night to bench my first TE, for my second. I declined.Comment

I think it's a little bit of both, catching and blocking. My TE (the future 50 TE) has gone up 3 points overall since I put him in the starting lineup, he has 37 Rec, 559 yards and 8 pancake blocks.Comment

I really don't see much difference production wise between a Jason Witten and a regular 80-rated Joe the Tight End. I've had both and ended up trading away Witten because the other the performed just as well as Witten did.Comment

Another part of the problem might be that many of the high potential TEs I grab areSpoilerthe Winslow clones from Delaware St. They start out low on OVR, don't have the "driven" trait and because of those factors often stagnate, at least in my experience.Comment

Re: Developing Tight Ends
Yeah, I got that too. But I got fed up once he got to 80, and signed Dallas Clark...
What's strange is, on other teams, they develop fine.
For example, there was a TE named Cooper Hooper (not kidding you, Sweetney year 2, Tony Gonzalez comparison), who was picked late round 1 by the Eagles.
By the end of the year, he had reached his potential of 87 and is now a 2 time probowler.Comment

Does coaching make a difference with tight ends? If I max out physical and intangible development with TE's, will they develop faster. Just curious if anyone has any idea if better coaches would show better TE development.Comment

Drew Goldman ... has anyone other then me drafted this TE ? I run a spread / saints type offence with him as TE1 and the man has been dominant... Never have a seen a TE effect my games so much with clutch catches .. last game the man caught 3 TDs! and i have bellows and manningham as WRs yet Goldman can steal the show at anypoint ... I'll be tracking his Overall (was at 83 pre game POT 91 .. and see if getting him this involved will help out
The only way I was able to get his and my rookie qb's overall up so quick (hes a rookie) was alot of singleback short routes that seemed to help develop them both very quickly since TE's are often used in these shorter playsComment

Re: Developing Tight Ends
Yeah, I drafted him for my Packers. He's pretty good - I don't think he's as good asother TEs in the English draft path, but he's a good receiver and a passable blocker.SpoilerKarron Cousins or Storm Stewart,
The other TEs I mentioned are unreal - the former is a massive target and plenty fast, while the latter is shorter but has WR-class speed. IIRC, they're both better blockers than Goldman, and since I want my TEs to do both very well, I typically trade Drew after I draft the other two. It's wonderful, the things you can do with 2 TE sets these days, especially against a 3-4 defense.Comment
