Best place to upgrade your coach?

Title says it all. I usually go Special Skills first. Whats the 'better' way to go?

Depends on what type of coach/gamer you are. If you are a super-sim or sim coach/gamer than you focus on standard skills first. If you are a coach/gamer who plays every game then you focus on special skills. Just my two cents.

Agree with the other posters, Performance should be maxed first and foremost, then I usually start filling in the special skills, maybe mix in player learning as well till it's maxed.

I typically upgrade my coaches as rapidly as possible by point allocation to "Average" in most skills (especially Performance and player development skills). Once that's done I move to working in special skills and player development, again by point expenditure.

For example, I typically do level 4 & 5 of Performance later because they cost more, and I can get a series of special skills more quickly by spending the lesser amounts required. It's the "quantity & speed over quality & delay" theory of coach development.

I typically purchase ambition with my initial points. It is expensive and doesn't help directly but over the long run it pays off. I also usually get the qb first skill and run blocking discipline as with those two it really helps your offense. I then get a couple levels of performance and then start buying the development skills buying as many 2000 point skills as possible. I then as I acquire points put them into getting the first level in each skill. After filling those out I will pick up a couple more special skills, a point of performance, and then go for the next level in each skill.

I suppose the best way really depends on what you are trying to accomplish and what your other coaches have. If you are trying to develop a young team then the development skills become more important. If you are trying to win with a good team then performance and then special skills is the way to go. If you are trying to overachieve with a bad team then your best bet is probably to stack up some special skills in a few areas where you can exploit the opposition.

I bought Ambition first, then all the Playbook Learning special skills, and the Charisma and whatever the other bad-effect-reduction specials were. I started a Raiders franchise so I figured whatever happened I needed to limit the damage to have a chance to get to the next year.

Now I'm working on Performance and a few other special skills. I am leaving most positional skills to my postiional coaches and maybe my coordinators.
