2009 Maceo Sweetney Draft
Heading into the preseason watch there were 5 heisman candidates. 1. indicates the favorite while 5. indicates the least likely candidate to win. Here are the preseason nominees.
1. Kendrick House RB Cincinnati
2. Luke Rambis QB Ohio State
3. Maceo Sweetney RB Tennessee
4. Jared May QB Western Michigan
5. Jaamal Kidd WR Ohio State
The top 2 teams in the nation entering the year are the USC Trojans who are ranked #1 in the land. The #2 team is Ohio State. USC has two pass rushing defensive ends in LaMaar Marburry LE USC a junior defensive end that could be a first rounder if he declares and Adam McRath RE USC a senior right end that's projected to be a late 7th round pick. Senior ROLB Ben Hayes ROLB USC is a projected 6th round draft pick. Secondary superstars Mario Markland CB USC, Ryan Spradlin FS USC, and Eshaunte Millard SS USC all enter their junior year this season. So USC is loaded on secondary. Now for a look at Ohio State and their potent offense. The Rambis to Kidd connection returns, but Rambis has another receiver in Markus Friday. Runningback Antonio Usher is a great receiving runningback. The Buckeyes have a position battle at tight ends and 5 freshman offensive lineman starting. Junior Cornerback Tyrod Darling wants to win a title now with a senior cast of offensive playmakers. When the season ended there were 3 Heisman finalists Sweetney, Rambis, and Darrick Conroy QB Kansas State. In the end Sweetney won the Heisman the Vols had a potent offense with Sweetney, Boston, and freshman Jeehu Bacon. The Junior heisman finalists Sweetney and Conroy declared for the Draft. Here's how the BCS Bowl games ended up the Rose Bowl featured Illinois VS Washington State, the Orange Bowl featured North Carolina VS Louisville, the Sugar Bowl featured Pittsburgh VS Tennessee. The Fiesta Bowl featured Hawaii VS Kansas State as Ohio State faced USC for the National Title. Every bowl game except the National Title where Rambis threw 4 touchdowns and no picks before losing to USC 35-28 was a blowout with Washington State, Louisville, Tennessee, and Kansas State winning their respective bowl games. Drew Tumblee QB Louisville is a floater quarterback that could be drafted in round 1. The knock with Rambis is his age and supporting cast, the knock with Conroy is he is not a field general quarterback and has a very slow rate for learning plays, and the knock with Tumblee is he has a weak arm. The sleeper quarterbacks include Jared May QB Western Michigan, LeMarcus Jackson QB Hawaii who was projected to drafted ahead of Rambis in October, and LJ Holland QB Southern Utah. House suffered a season ending injury so no one knows if House will return to his top 5 form or whether he will be another injury prone runningback with a career cut short. Besides the Buckeyes receivers you got Montario Tart III WR Auburn also known as Montario Tart 3rd. Jamario Boston WR Tennessee and Raymond Conley WR Michigan are the other 2 wide receivers. Michigan has 2 other receivers besides the junior Conley including sophomore Darien Wilson and freshman TJ Nunn. Three more receivers were Florida speedsters in high school in college. DeFazio Combs WR Miami FL, Tyrus Duhon WR Florida, and Malachi Cribbs WR Central Florida are all trying to improve their route running and hands because these 3 receivers have the speed to play at the next level. Cooper Hooper TE Boston College has the speed of a tight end that you look for in the NFL. Patrick Fox LT North Carolina is the clear cut #1 left tackle in College Football at this point. It seems apparent that Sweetney will go #1 overall with Rambis going #2 and Conroy being selected 3rd, but what is not clear is which two elite defensive lineman will round out the top 5. Pac 10 pass rushing studs Andre Dalembert RE Washington State and Laamar Marbury LE USC are both in position to be top 5 picks while Thaddeus Cheeks DT Pittsburgh is a player to keep an eye on. All 3 of these defensive lineman declared for the draft as juniors. Big Blue has groomed another linebacker for the NFL. In 2007 they groomed David Harris, Laamar Woodley, and Prescott Burgess as all 3 Wolverines got drafted. In 2008 they groomed Shawn Crable. This year the Wolverines groomed middle linebacker Martin McPeek MLB Michigan who is the best middle linebacker in this draft. Two corners that could make an impact besides Mario Markland the USC corner that I already mentioned are OJ McClintock CB Texas and Renaldo Moon CB Illinois who returned an interception for a touchdown despite the 42 to 7 loss to Washington State. Moon decided to forgo his senior year and declare for the draft. Antoine Jefferson FS LSU is the only free safety that could challenge Ryan Spradlin the USC free safety for the top free safety spot in this draft. Despite the other 2 Trojan secondary players declaring Eshaunte Millard SS USC returned to USC for his senior year.
2010 Travian Davis Draft
Travian Davis and Florida defeated Ohio State to win the National Title. Ohio State has now lost 4 titles in a row to Florida in 2007, LSU in 2008, USC in 2009, and Florida again in 2010 in the Maceo Sweetney Draft Path. Davis the first left tackle to win the Heisman in the Davis path is the top player in this draft. Here is a list of the top 5 players in the Travian Davis Draft.
1. Travian Davis LT Florida Davis is 6 feet 9 inches and 350 pounds. Davis can pass block and run block.
2. Tyrod Darlin CB Ohio State Darlin got the Buckeyes to 4 straight national title games. Darlin is being compared to pro bowl cornerback Champ Bailey.
3. CC Beachum RB West Virginia Beachum is an elusive runningback from West Virginia that is being compared to Barry Sanders.
4. Lynell Rice WR Calfornia Rice is the top wide receiver in the country and a guy who can make an immediate impact.
5. Darren Willison WR Michigan was a #2 option as a sophomore and as a junior got 6 receptions for 180 receiving yards and 1 touchdown against Ohio State in a 20 to 14 loss in Ann Arbor. Sophomore TJ Nunn who went from a slot receiver to a #2 option was Michigan's best player that day and he was a slot receiver as a freshman. Next year Nunn will be a prospect to keep an eye on.
2011 Antonio Boxx Draft
Heading into the preseason junior quarterback Jake Denali QB Arizona State was favored to win the Heisman as the Sun Devils were ranked #1 in the country followed by Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, and Michigan to round out the top 5. Delani threw for over 2,700 passing yards as a freshman throwing 14 touchdowns and 17 picks. As a sophomore he threw 35 touchdowns and 10 picks with over 3,500 passing yards. That factor alone makes him the Heisman favorite. Arizona State beat Michigan 27-24 in a classic Rose Bowl last year. One con with Denali is he doesn't have the leadership to be a field general quarterback. TJ Nunn WR Michigan won the Heisman and the National Title as they defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide and there core of linebackers. Here is how the top 5 picks in the 2011 Antonio Boxx Draft looks at this point.
1. Antonio Boxx FS Tennessee Boxx also known as A Boxx is the only future 50 player in this draft and the only future 50 free safety in the entire game. Boxx can be drafted in the top 10 or in the late portion of round 1.
2. TJ Nunn WR Michigan Nunn won the Heisman and the National Title as the Wolverines beat the Crimson Tide.
3. Anquan Taylor QB Buffalo Taylor despite not making a bowl game put on a show at the Senior Bowl and the NFL combine in this weak quarterback class and his climbing his way up draft boards. Some draft pundits think he could get drafted before Jake Denali with his impressive arm strength, accuracy, awareness, and speed. Taylor looks like a top 5 pick at this point while Denali looks like a top 10 pick.
4. Yerimiah Hutch MLB Alabama The senior linebackers at Alabama Yerimiah and Jeremiah Hutch along with sophomore middle linebacker Vince McGrady are a great trio in the Crimson Tide 3-4 defense. Yerimiah is the middle linebacker while Jeremiah is the right outside linebacker that can make a huge impact as a pass rusher.
5. Jeremiah Hutch ROLB Alabama Hutch is an excellent pass rusher with left outside linebacker Trent Starsky a true freshman on the other side.
2012 Chad Gunn Draft
The Season is over. Here are the 2011 Heisman results for the Maceo Sweetney Draft. In 5th place Jeehu Bacon WR Tennessee Bacon's receiving got the Volunteers to a national title. In 4th place Joker Davis WR UNLV Davis the senior wide receiver that didn't attend the Senior Bowl finished in 4th place with his all american numbers. In 3rd place Jermaine Shazor QB Virginia Who posted Vince Young like numbers at Virginia. Shazor is a dual threat and has out of this world speed for a scrambling quarterback. Two knocks on Shazor are he has a low learning rate and he's an underclassmen. Your Heisman runner up is Chad Gunn the senior quarterback at Texas Tech. Your Heisman winner is Parrish Okung RB Baylor. USC and their powerhouse defense defeated Tennessee 63 to 7 to win the national title. Rondell Lee DT USC, Kordell Sosa ROLB USC, Aaron Swank CB USC, and Kalin Contu FS USC are all ready for the NFL. Corey Bobo QB Maryland took college football by storm this year with a hot start, but a cold finish. Bobo has looked good in senior bowl, combine, pro day, and individual workouts. Adam Dade MLB Air Force is one of the best players in college football. Two elite left tackles in this draft are Matt Beckum LT Wisconsin and Justin Shoemaker LT Wyoming.
2013 Vince McGrady Draft
Your results are in as #1 Florida State defeated #2 Alabama to win the National Championship. Heisman winner Walter Hawkins QB Florida State decided to forgo his senior year to enter the draft. His competition to be the top pick in this years draft. Andrew Zito QB Nevada who played at Nevada for 2 years as a starter Zito is being compared to Fran Tarkenton. At first it looked like Hawkins was the clear cut #1 pick, but as the senior bowl, combine, pro day, and individual workouts progressed. Teams liked Zito better. Vince McGrady MLB Alabama continues to be the can't miss prospect in this draft. Seminole cornerback DeAndre Miles is being compared to Champ Bailey and some scouts like Hopkins didn't have a go to receiver as where Zito had Jerious Lockwood WR Nevada. Here is how the top 5 should look heading into draft weekend.
1. Vince McGrady MLB Alabama McGrady is being compared to Ray Lewis. McGrady can play the 4-3 or the 3-4 scheme which is great for a middle linebacker.
2. DeAndre Miles CB Florida State Alabama and Florida State were tied at 24 in the National Title with less than a minute when Miles returned the game winning interception. Miles is being compared to Champ Bailey.
3. Walter Hopkins QB Florida State Hopkins didn't have any receivers and he won the Heisman and the National Title with Florida State.
4. Andrew Zito QB Nevada It seemed obvious at first that Hopkins would be the first quarterback taken with everything he accomplished. Plus Zito had a go to guy in Jerious Lockwood. Zito played in the senior bowl, combine, pro day, and individual workouts and performed well. He's right up there with Hopkins now and could be better than Hopkins because he's being compared to Fran Tarkenton, but because he has Jerious Lockwood play with him in those games were giving Hopkins a very slight edge at this point.
5. Jerious Hopkins WR Nevada Hopkins was the go to target for a 5-7 Nevada team that failed to make a bowl game.
2014 Cleveland Green Draft
Your 2013 Heisman results are in and here are the results. In 5th place Benjamin Hitt RB Pittsburgh. Hitt is being compared to Tony Dorsett and Curtis Martin. Andre Greer LG Pittsburgh constantly run blocked at a consistent rate so he deserves some credit along with freshman left tackle Dane Jorgensen. Freshman quarterback Mitch Rendell just had to hand it off to Hitt so things were easy for him. Both Hitt and Greer are seniors. In 4th place Jordan Frady QB Notre Dame. Some argue Frady is the top quarterback in this draft as Frady declared as a junior. In 3rd place Brad Beckum QB USC is being overrated in my mind. He has a senior tight end who was the Heisman runner up a top 10 receiver returning for his senior year and a top 10 left tackle also returning for his senior year. Beckum decides to declare as junior despite USC being the favorite to win it all next year without him. Your Heisman runner up is Andrew Stuckey TE USC as Cleveland Green TE Miami FL became the first tight end to win the Heisman. Green played Stuckey for the National Title. Miami FL won 24-17 at the Orange Bowl where #1 Miami FL beat #2 USC. Green was the MVP and caught 3 touchdowns in the game. The Big 10 has two stud left tackles this year in Mike Emerson LT Michigan State and Macedes McJuckett LT Michigan. Miami FL has two elite safeties. Jovani Barnes FS Miami FL and Carlos Kendrick SS Miami FL.
2015 Phillip Okafor Draft
Your Heisman winner is Phillip Okafor as #2 Texas A/M beats #1 USC to win the National Title. Here is how the top 10 looks like heading into April's draft with 2 runningbacks and 3 Ivy League students locking up the top 5 picks.
1. Phillip Okafor RB Texas A/M Okafor is a junior and is the clear cut best player in this draft.
2. CJ Waymire RB Oregon State Waymire is a senior at Oregon State and some scouts think he can be better than Okafor.
3. Omar Paulus QB Harvard Paulus is a young Tom Brady in the making or that's what the so called Ivy League stiffs think. Paulus has a 90 grade or higher in physical tools, size, intangibles, learning, durability, production, and potential. This senior quarterback would be the top pick in the draft if he didn't go to Harvard.
4. Tyler Grobe LT Dartmouth Grobe is a great pass blocking left tackle. Next to Paulus he might be the best long term player in this draft.
5. Justin Trudeau MLB Princeton Princeton is the third Ivy League Graduate who is a projected top 10 pick.
6. Kammron Pompey WR Oregon Pompey is the best wide receiver in this draft.
7. Nate Hollings WR USC outgained every receiver he played against except Pompey.
8. Sam Bradshaw LT USC Bradshaw was a blindside for Brad Beckum last year. He's one of the more underrated players in this draft.
9. Andre Granger LT Texas Granger is another beast at left tackle in this draft. He isn't as good as Bradshaw or Grobe when it comes to pass blocking, but he can run block more consistently than both of them. Granger is still a deadly pass blocker though.
10. Brett Zumwalt QB Wake Forest He would have been a first round pick last year, but decided to return in hopes of cracking the top 10. Scouts said he needed to work on his arm strength, accuracy, and awareness. Zumwalt says he's worked on those 3 qualities. Has he though?
2016 Aldarius Arline Draft
Aldarius Arline QB Florida is being compared to Vince Young as he ran away with the Heisman. #1 Florida defeated #2 California to win the National Title. Here is a look at the top 5 players to draft.
1. Aldarius Arline QB Florida Despite a breakout senior season there are questions about him because of the spread offense.
2. Delvan Higgins RB California Higgins is considered to be the best overall player in this draft.
3. Dwayne Darby WR Illinois Darby is breakout receiver who can make an instant impact on Day 1.
4. Kirby McCarthy TE Missouri Kirby McCarthy is one of the best tight end prospects in a long time. Some NFL GM's have thought about drafting him in the top 5.
5. Akim McDonald LT Auburn There is only 1 stud left tackle in this draft. That man is Akim McDonald the Auburn left tackle who can pass block and run block.
2017 Clinton Demps Draft
#1 Notre Dame and Junior Quarterback JJ Sunday defeated UCLA to win the National Title. Here is a look at the top 10 in the 2017 Clinton Demps Draft. JJ Sunday would have been the top player in the draft had he declared.
1. Clinton Demps RB UTEP Demps is being compared to LaDanian Tomlinson. Demps is far and away the best player in this draft.
2. Victor Mouton QB Iowa State Mouton is a dual threat quarterback that is being compared to Kurt Warner. Imagine Kurt Warner and his west coast offense combined with a quarterback who can take off on any given play. That is exactly what your getting with Victor Mouton.
3. Mitch Rendell QB Pittsburgh Rendell has started every game since he was a freshman. The Pitt Panthers were the #1 team in the land heading into the preseason. Pittsburgh was 11-0, but when they traveled to West Virginia to play the Mountaineers West Virginia redshirt freshman Will Krowly came off the bench after the Pitt defensive line injured all of West Virginia's quarterbacks. In Krowly's first career play under center he threw a 54 yard Hail Mary at the last second to knock off the Pittsburgh Panthers. As Notre Dame became the new #1 team in college football follow by UCLA at #2.
4. Dane Jorgensen LT Pittsburgh Jorgensen is being compared to Chad Clifton and has protected Rendell since his freshman year. Rendell and Jorgensen are such good friends whenever Rendell was invited to a frat party he brought Jorgensen along as his personal bodyguard.
5. Kalvin Brooks QB Central Florida Brooks is beng compared to Daunte Culpepper. This draft features 3 quarterbacks who get drafted in the top 5.
6. Bobbie Dunbar RB UCLA Dunbar was a Heisman finalist losing out to junior quarterbacks Rob Holloway of Ohio State and JJ Sunday of Notre Dame.
7. Myron Campbell DT Wisconsin Campbell is being compared to Kevin Williams. This pass rushing run stuffer at defensive tackle is a top 10 lock with an outside chance of being drafted in the top 5.
8. Jameel Marshall MLB Texas Marshall like Vince McGrady is being compared to Vince McGrady.
9. DeAndre Webb CB Florida Webb is being compared to Champ Bailey.
10. Marcus Sledge SS Tennessee Sledge is being labeled as the next Troy Polamalu and could be the first safety drafted in the top 10 in a long time.
2018 JJ Sunday Draft
This draft is a joke unless you have a chance of drafting JJ Sunday QB Notre Dame or Rob Holloway QB Ohio State. 2 time Heisman Winner JJ Sunday is being compared to Joe Montana while 2 time Heisman Runner Up Rob Holloway is being compared to Phil Simms. Both Sunday and Holloway played in the National Title this year as Sunday won his 2nd straight national title. Both Sunday and Holloway are pro style quarterbacks who play in a west coast offense that uses the passing game to set up the run. You can't go wrong with either Sunday or Holloway as their both good quarterbacks to build an NFL Franchise around.
2019 LeRoy Hampton Draft
The Regular Season is over as Joe Mallard QB Arizona State wins the Heisman. #2 Georgia will face #1 Arizona State for the National Title. Mallard might have won the Heisman, but MVP LeRoy Hampton MLB Georgia is the MVP of the National Championship. Hampton is being compared to Ray Lewis.
2020 JaMichael Prince Draft
Your Heisman winner has been decided as Senior runningback JaMichael Prince RB wins the Heisman as Notre Dame gets their 3rd Heisman Winner and National Title in 4 years. Notre Dame beat #2 Miami FL to win the National Title. Miami FL has one good player in this draft. That player is Khaled Gallington LT Miami FL who is being compared to Bryant McKennie.
2021 Javarris Norris Draft
Florida State beat UCLA to win the National Title. Below is a list of the top 10 players in this Draft.
1. Javarris Norris QB Tulane Norris is being compared to Byron Leftwich and is easily the best quarterback in this draft.
2. Chester Naysmith RB Colorado Naysmith won the Heisman.
3. Matt McClosky LT Colorado State McClosky is the best left tackle in college football.
4. London Crowley SS Florida State Crowley led the Seminoles to a national title. He also led the NCAA in interceptions.
5. Brien Dixon RE UCLA Dixon led the nation in sacks and he led #2 UCLA to a national title.
6. Osiris Swoope WR San Diego State Swoope led the NCAA in receptions and is a playmaker receiver.
7. David Kirby TE Kansas State Kirby is a playmaker tight end that can jump, run routes, and catch the ball well.
8. Adam Stafford QB Stanford Stafford is the best quarterback in college football.
9. Courtney Jamison LE LSU Jamison was one of 2 All American left ends to play for the SEC.
10. Ronald Fouth LE Florida Fouth is the best pass rushing defensive end in the SEC besides Jamison. Both defensive ends got multiple sacks in the SEC Championship.
2022 Paul Beaumont Draft
#1 USC defeated #2 Florida to win the National Championship. Paul Beaumont QB USC was this years Heisman Winner. NFL Scouts call him Palmer 2.0 because he reminds many of a young Carson Palmer. Florida features 2 key players on their Gator Chomp pass rushing defense that was a #1 pass rushing defense. DeQuan Mincey LE Florida who is being compared to Jevon Kearse and Tyson Dixon ROLB Florida named exactly the same as the Florida ROLB Tyson Dixon in the Jack English Draft Path. There are 3 elite runningbacks in this draft. I'll start by mentioning Tony Strong RB Texas who is being compared to Earl Campbell. The other 2 runningbacks are Pac 10 studs Adrian Bradshaw RB Oregon and Dezmond Morris RB UCLA. There are 3 standout receivers in this draft. Pops Robinson WR Arkansas is being compared to Marcus Monk. Ozzie Lyons WR Tennessee is the next Robert Meachem. The final elite wide receiver in this draft is Germany Wilson WR Pittsburgh who is being compared to Larry Fitzgerald.
Heading into the preseason watch there were 5 heisman candidates. 1. indicates the favorite while 5. indicates the least likely candidate to win. Here are the preseason nominees.
1. Kendrick House RB Cincinnati
2. Luke Rambis QB Ohio State
3. Maceo Sweetney RB Tennessee
