I've read that there are a lot of gameplay bugs that kill the atmosphere. Can anyone give me some feedback on the gameplay experience.

Well, you should be able to score this game for around 10 bucks these days..so it's minimal risk to you.
I love this game, IMO it's in the rare air with NFL2k5 for my favorite NFL videogame of all time. And I'm sure I've spent more time on Head Coach 09 than any other sports game, period.
As to bugs, there is an update for it that helps quite a few, and if you get this game on 360, installing it to the harddrive let's it play MUCH better on gameday. It's not perfect, and has it's idiosyncrasies like all sports games have...but it is a remarkable game if you're into football strategy and planning and team building. If you're more into the action, it may not be for you.GO 'HAWKS!

Ps3 guy here it ran well after patch i played over 8 full seasons.Can be very challenging and ive also heard of people dominating.If youre into football strategy and coaching definately worth it!If youre into great graphics and supreme game play might not be ,but for ten bucks probaly worth checking out i would think.Mlb-Giants

Atmosphere is terrible...
On the field football looks terrible (though it's functional with sliders)...
But the career mode is sublime. If you're into franchise modes, this is definitely worth the price of admission considering a used copy is around 10 bucks tops.There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.

If you like strategy sim type games and aren't hung up on graphics, etc, this is a good title.
I STILL enjoy mine two years on.Football isn't a matter of life or death - it's much more important than that.Comment

This game isn't meant to be judged upon graphics in the actual game. The Career Mode is the most amazing football sim Franchise I've played. It's so depth, it's crazy.
I just got the game for just over $5 on Amazon (game was $2, shipping was $3ish).

The only thing that really bothers me about this game is the stats,which is very important in a sim-style game such as this.You see insanely high qb and receiver stats but bad qb's will be beyond awful but still continue to play even with a 30% comp. pct. and 30-some pics.Rb's,especially speed backs like Chris Johnson will be hard pressed to get 2 ypc.
