TE as #1 OVR pick

I just started a new Dolphins franchise and was assigned to the Ozzie Jones draft path. The Falcons had the #1 pick after going 2-14 (Matt Ryan went to IR early on). When draft day came, the Falcons wanted to trade out of the #1 spot but they couldn't get a deal done, so they had to pick at #1. They passed on QB Joe Kain (they have Ryan, so I understand that) and all the great defensive linemen in that draft (Acho, Boone, Roe) and picked the TE from Miami at #1 (can't remember his name).

How strange is that??? A TE at #1??? C'mon, man...

Re: TE as #1 OVR pick

I don't think that pick was a bust. I went through that draft and drafted the Miami TE #7 overall. He had a Tony Gonzalez comparison and turned out to have a 94 Balanced potential as a TE. If the Falcons can develop their TE, they've got the next Tony Gonzalez.

Never meant to say he's a bust. It just seemed crazy to me to take a TE at #1. When the 49ers drafted Vernon Davis at #6 everyone thought that was far too high for a TE (positional value).

Isn't that odd though? A TE has to block AND be able to catch. The Skillset is harder to come by you would think they would go earlier.

Ya but having a top end tight end isn't the same as having a top rb or qb, they don't change games the same way.

Re: TE as #1 OVR pick

I have to disagree, an elite tight end can cause so many issues with a defense.

Ok it can cause issues, but its not winning a lot of games without a top RB or QB. Just look at dallas clark. Tamme stepped in this season and Peyton didn't miss a beat. They have a poop D tho so they continue losing.
