    Wing T

Has anyone tried running it? I have experimented alittle bit with it using the Jumbo Wing T and Full House formations for running and using a HB for a QB in the regular Wing T and running it like a wildcat formation. This way I can have a better passing QB instead of a running QB the does't throw very well. Anyone have any thoughts? I have tried it a little in coach now games but have never tried it in dynasty.

I tried using the Sander's Army Run (which has those formations), and I was underwhelmed. I feel the playbook is too small and you'd have to add plays to make it more effective. As for swapping a HB in, I don't know if they would have the play learned at that position, but it's worked for me when I tried the QB sneak so I'm not 100% sure. I would probably just have two QBs- Josh Johnson to run (he develops into a good passer later) and Andre Woodson or something to throw it.

I've tried Sander's Army Run but I didn't like that it had no play action passes out of the splitback formation. I looked through all the play action plays in the game but could not find any from splitbacks. I could not even find any play action where the QB didn't fake to an RB directly behind him so I couldn't even make my own plays.

I've used it a bunch, I love power running in Head Coach - it can be a challenge though because of the lack of passing options.

You can swap out a QB and put a RB in for certain plays and you'll be ok. Before I outlawed it on myself, in any playbook, if I was ever in a 3rd or 4th in short, I'd swap to goal line, QB sneak and put in my power back in place of my QB and get it 100% of the time, usually getting several yards more than I needed... (again, power backs with 90+trucking, ACC matters more than speed in this case too) Honestly I did it to keep my QB from getting extra hits on him and let the bruiser take the short yardage hits. I don't really like to do it though, because it's kind of cheap and it never happens in the Pros, and I try to gimmick my way through the game. I'm only cheating myself that way. But when I had my Tampa franchise, I signed Shaun Alexander, and he was money every time. I sure wasn't going to let Brian Griese sneak it, and my backups weren't "the power running quarterback type". LOL

          Re: Wing T

The true benefit to using one of the Power run playbooks in NFL Head Coach, and any game really, is the ability to perfect one area of the game and focus on that perfection.

Running the ball with say... Sanders offense... isn't difficult if you put it in your mind that you have 4 plays to get 10 yards and therefor only need 2.5 yards per carry. To be safe, carry the ball for a little over 3 yards a play and you have yourself a first down every drive.

The goal in a true Wing T offense is to control the clock, dominate the line of scrimmage and score EVERY TIME you are on offense. If you score EVERY TIME(which shouldn't be many if you're using 6-9 minutes of the clock every drive) you force opposing offenses to be perfect in their limited time on the field.

Once you realize this is the only goal for the team to succeed... It turns a 53 man roster into a 7-9 man focus. If you can develop a terrific line, a strong tight end or two and a few solids backs who can take the bulk of 30 carries... You will succeed. Period.

It's not fancy, it's not special... but it gets the job done and is incredibly rewarding. There is a sense of achievement in it.

Just remember... The Powers set up the counters. Power until you can't and then counter every now and then.

          3 yards a carry.
