Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

The Gm wanted me to release RG Ben Noll and RB Justin Fargas, I didnt and my approval dropped to 96.

I did however finally get rid of QB Jamarcus Russell! I took a $15 million penalty on the cap but I saved $10.22 million. I now have $23.6 million to spend. However I do not have any glaring needs that I will address in FA, I will sign some back-ups if needed, as long there is no bonus so I can cut them if I want to.

End of Year Statistics
QB Scott: Rating of 101.9, 3552 yards, completion 66%, 22 TDs, 15 INTs
RB James: 4.6 YPC, 1165 yards, 15 TDs, 2 fumbles
RB Turner: random stat, 4 fumbles
FB Pryor: 3.8 ypc, 116 yards, 6 TDs (those FB running plays work!)
TE Miller: 72 receptions, 1052 yards, 5 TDs, 5 drops
WR Williams: random stat, 10 drops and 4 TDs
MLB Simms and OLB Howard: each had 84 tackles
OLB Rivers: 6 sacks
MLB Simms: 27 TFLs
SS Steltz: 10 INTs
K Janikowski: 24 for 27 FGs, 88%
P Brooks; 41.5 yard average
Offense; 33.9 ppg, 3906 pass yards, 1746 rush yards, gave up 27 sacks
Defense: 8211 pass yards, 1366 rush yards, 37 sacks
3rd Downs: 52%
4th Down: 58%
Red Zone: 85%, Defense Red Zone: 77%
68 penalties for 829 yards
+16 turn over differental

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

As I prepare for the draft there are a couple of things I am considering, first off is getting some help for DT Lopez. I know who the sleeper is but I just dont think he is going to be good enough to help me against those 90+ offensive lineman.

I also need to upgrade my CBs. I cant believe I gave up over 8000 yards in the air! I have been running a zone-blitz defense and I want to continue that, but I need to make sure my DBs have better zone skills. From watching the games I am going to concentrate on upgrading their physical attributes, in the loss to NE my DBs were being pushed all over the place and that will not win championships.

Here are my draft picks:
1st, pick 28
2nd, pick 60
3rd, pick 89
3rd, pick 90
3rd, pick 92
4th, pick 124
4th, pick 127
5th, pick 155
5th, pick 156
6th, pick 188
6th, pick 191
7th, pick 219

I would love for LE Cox, DT Kemp or DT Gilbert to fall to 28th, but I know that isnt going to happen so I may try to move up and get one of them. That will make the GM happy because he wants me to trade up.

I know I need help at WR and to work on my offensive line, but I think I have found some lower rated players that will be good enough to upgrade where I need to. CB is going to be one position I need to watch, there are 2 players I want because they are rated high on zone coverage so I have to make sure I can get them.

I will post the draft results as soon as I am finished with it.

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

DRAFT DAY 2010

1.Pittsburgh: QB Rob Lane, Washington
2. Dolphins: QB Cooper Reno, UNLV
3. Panthers: QB Matt Jamison, Boston College
4. Falcons: DT Riko Kemp
5. Jets: LE Xavier Cox, Florida
6. Texans: LT Selvin Lankford, USC
7. Jaguars: CB Jeremy Shields, Arizona
8. Cardinals: CB Jarius Lewis, Nebraska
9. Ravens: WR Flash Gorden, LSU
10. Cowboys: LOLB Demeco Boldin, Colorado
11. Redskins: HB Noah Jevine, WVU
12. Rams: LT Julian Davis, Michigan
13. Lions: HB Jay Chandler, Maryland
14. Bears: The Raiders trade their 2011 1st and 2nd Round picks along with their 2010 3rd Round, #90 pick to select DT Devin Gilbert, USC. I couldnt believe he had fallen that far and I had made the decision if he fell out of the top 10 AND someone was offering to trade I was going to try to get him. His numbers look great, a 6'5" 328 lb beast who I hope will be able to close those rushing lanes and still get pressure on the QB.
15. Dolphins: HB Reggie Vick, Michigan
16. Seahawks: WR Dequan Mathis, LSU
17. Chargers: WR Ricardo Rose, Michigan
18. Bengals: CB Corey Taylor, Ohio State
19. Chiefs: QB Darius Pryor, Texas (I dont look forward to facing him)
20. Giants: TE Greg Lowe, Illinois
21. Browns: HB Bradley Bradley, Boise State (I cant believe this name!!)
22. Pittsburgh: FSEd Norwood, Nebraska
23. Bills: SS JJ Colins, Notre Dame
24. Broncos: RE Brian Ford, FSU
25. Lions: RE Steve Garner, Washington State
26. Vikings: WR Curtis Anderson, NCSU
27. Titans: WR Reggie Seeley, Michigan
28. Raiders: MLB Dexter Foley, LSU Since I lost MLB Morrison to FA I needed a MLB to help when I go into a 3-4 and I am very pleased to get this 6'3", 285 lb tackling machine.
29. Eagles: LE Jordan Knight, Oregon
30. Patriots: CB Justin Lankster, FSU
31. Chargers: SS Juquan Logan, USC
32. Colts: LOLB Dustin Bird, Kansas State

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

The rest of the Raiders Draft Picks

Round 2, Pick 60: WR Jamelle Lewsi, Miami. He is a beast at 6'5" and I hope will compliment WR Bellows as a deep threat
Round 3, Pick 89: LE Daniel Rucker, Alabama A&M. He was a sleepr and recommended by the GM. His numbers looked great and may pan out to help with the rotation.
Round 3, Pick 92: CB Rashanti Barney, Michigan State. Another sleeper who had very high zone skills.
Round 4, Pick 124: LG Paul Weaver, Georgia. Since the GM wanted to cut G Jake Scott I figured I needed some depth here. His is 6'2", 326 lbs and has great RBS and PBS, and a big plus is he has high Learning.
Round 4, Pick 127: RT Tyler Watkins, Howard. Once again I wanted some depth and this 6'7", 306 lbs tackle might pan out. I wished he weighed a little more for a tackle, but his other numbers looked great.
Round 5, Pick 155: QB Jacob Green, Bosotn College. He was a sleeper recommended by the GM.
Round 5, Pick 156: FS Deveo Kerns, Fairfield. Sleeper, GM recommendation.
Round 6, Pick 188: WR Lee Mckinley, Stanford. Sleeper, GM recommendation
Round 6, Pick 191: DT Jajuan Dwight, Troy. GM recommendation
Round 7, Pick 219: CB Freddie Blair, UW Stevens Pt. GM recommendation.

Re: Rebuilding the Raiders

Pre-Season Update, Week 1

First the positves...the Raiders won the game with a stellar defense. The final score was 59-14. Rookie QB Jacob Green threw for 5 TDs in the 2nd Half. The defense keep the Falcons from really getting a drive going as they hauled in 5 INTS. DT Gilbert and MLB Foley showed flashes of greatness and WR Charlie Freeman made a strong case as he made some fantastic catches. CB Barney started the game off with a beautiful pass defense and never let up the whole game. So overall I was very pleased...

Now the negatives...WTH is wrong with RB James??? He averaged 1.8 yards per carry!! I watched him run AWAY from wide open holes in the o-line. However, my Rookie Undrafted FA RB Jorge Ball was carrying defenders with him as he averaged 6.5 ypc. Granted Ball was running against the 2nd string defense...but that has nothing to do with running AWAY from the line of scrimmage. These were our staple plays from last year so I am at a loss about him now.

Kicker Janikowski suffered a bruised knee trying to make a tackle and is out for 5-6 days, so he will miss the game against the Dolphins. Rookie RT Watkins lacerated his hand somehow while on the bench and is out 3 days.
