Re: Knowledge from the past

Bump.

With Josh recently leaving the Madden team, I was digging up info on HC09. I found this thread to be very informative and valuable.

Many thanks to Mike3207 and everyone else for putting it all together.

Re: Knowledge from the past

Was a compiled Google docs ever assembled for this super in-depth game? I'm just now dusting off my copy again. This thread is fantastic!

Really good info here, bumping for possible new players or people coming back and wanting a refresher/more in-depth research.

Re: Knowledge from the past

Just started playing Head Coach 09 again and this thread is amazing.

Really love the game. It's a shame there wasn't a sequel or just incorporated some of the features into franchise mode.

What does the CPU team do in preparation for games? Does it gameplan according to playcall frequencies like we can see about the opponents, does it use season rushing or passing stats for offense and defense? Does it know who is in my depth chart?

The CPU teams are capable, they're aware of your depth chart (and will pick on your weak points) and know your playcalling tendencies. It may take awhile for the CPU to have cracked your playcalling code though just as it takes time to learn to defend against great offenses in real life. I've heard that after your 3rd season or so the CPU teams have enough info on your play style that they can adequately prepare against you creating a new challenge.

NFL Head Coach 09 had a "Play Steal" feature.

CPU teams stole your successful plays in your playbook and added them to their playbooks. That feature met with college playbooks from incoming college coaches and user created plays birthed a new meta evolution for playcallers across the NFL.
