Re: Best and Worst Run Franchises in HC09

Here's what I figure to be important for the AI to be successful in HC09 (in that order):

1) Offensive PB (pass heavy)
2) Head Coach
3) QB
4) Defensive PB (Cover 2)
5) GM
6) Trainer (injuries to QB & RB -> backups don't have PB knowledge so they suck)
7) Rest of the coaching staff
8) Rest of the roster

In my personal view AI teams can be successful with a mediocre roster, as long as they have the right playbooks (read: the right HC/OC/DC) and a decent QB. Hammermill or Martz can turn every team into an instant contender, as long as they have a halfway decent QB. Pair them with a Cover 2 DC and you'll see a Superbowl contender every year, regardless of the quality of the roster (aside from QB).

I think the quality of the roster is vastly underrated in this game, compared to the power of coaches & playbooks. Also, the difference between having a bad trainer and having a good trainer is far too big. Once you get a 90+ trainer you'll rarely see a player with 80+ INJ rating get hurt. If your trainer sucks you'll get injuries almost every week.

I've heard that any team that gets Hammermill becomes an automatic offensive juggernaut but I've seen teams continue to suck even with him taking over the helm.

It's almost a sure bet that whatever team Hammermill takes over becomes a juggernaut, but in rare cases the team still doesn't do well. I saw it happen as well when running my tests. It all depends on the personnel of the team he takes over

I've seen hammermil go to Oakland. This was after my first year.

Year 1 Raiders: 6-10 they fired kiffin. I was very surprised.
Year 2 Raiders: 3-13 they hired hammermil. Great offense statistically. Very bad defense when I looked. Offensively hammermil is a star.
