Yes, it really is that bad. I'll concede I don't utilize the TE as much as maybe I should, although both TEs combined usually do manage in the neighborhood of 70 catches and 700 yds for the year.

The big problem really is the physical development, especially the speed ratings. I saw negligible physical development for the speed ratings, even at Physical Development 4.

Things are a little better with intangibles, but I still think it's best to max it out. I got about 4 points increase in awareness, way behind the receivers who already have maxed it out.

I never charted it but when gates was getting me 80 catches 10 tds and like 1200 yards/year, he reached his full potential if not better(in most ratings and in general).

Of course as you've articulated the situational ones didnt improve fast at all, but the general ones were quickly developed with production.
I feel like TE is strictly production in game. Like Goody mentioned, I utilized my TE a lot in the beginning of my career. Basically my primary target. It was Ben Watson who reguarly had 1,000+ yard seasons and 10+ TDs. His rating stayed in 90's. Now I use my WRs more and TEs I can't get them to develop for crap.

Re: Player Development

If you're gonna try to develop tes, you pretty much need a te centric playbook. That means the cheifs or chargers, maybe the colts, steelers and a couple others.

Re: Player Development

Defensive Linement

Thanks for all the feedback on TE development-I'll admit it's a bit of a balancing act between TEs and receivers.

As for development for defensive linemen, they seem to do pretty well once you get in the 3-4 range. I was seeing awareness build in the 12-14 range-very impressive.

The one intangible that seems to really lag-Hit Power. I know my former DT Duane Russell never did get to increase his HP rating from 40 to 41 in 5 years time. Still-everything else seems pretty rapid, and you shouldn't have any problems developing D-Linemen.

Re: Player Development

Gosh, this game is TOO deep for me sometimes lol! I didn't realize all of this factored into player development. I've got to read up on this board to learn some of this stuff. Nice thread.

Re: Player Development

Linebackers

Linebackers-max it out with your HC. Use all the aids available-Disciplined Routine, Innovator with all coaches, and the progress they make will still be incremental at best. Both the general and situation ratings are very slow to develop-say 1-2 points over the course of a year.

Do you invest in HC player development right away or hold off and buy special skills first?

It's really your choice-but keep in mind that all the other HCs start with a big advantage in player development. Currently I lean toward putting all 50000 in player development to start, but that's just my choice.

Re: Player Development

Cornerbacks

Before I go into cornerbacks, I've changed my mind on learning development a bit. It not only affects the Learning rating, but the degree to which you learn the playbook as well. If you check the playbook Knowledge teams, they not only get the playbook SS but invest heavily in learning development as well. I've edited some of my first few posts to reflect the change. That'll teach me to post before I fully research something.

Now-cornerbacks. They do ok on development, about 4-5 points in awareness a year at Dev 4. That's not bad, but it'll take some time for that 30 awareness corner to max out on awareness. Keep an eye on intangibles when you look at cornerbacks.
