At this point I don't understand carrying three QB's. If Rivers goes down then they have Volek and they can go out and get someone else if and when one of the two QB's would go on the IR.

Whitehurst's spot is a wasted roster spot IMO.

Just ask the Colts.

Agreed, but what I'm wondering about more is the 5 RB's. Johnson wasn't all that impressive, and what is the point of Tolbert and Hester? I'd rather have a 4th CB, and an extra D-lineman than Whitehurst and 5 RB's.

They carried 3 RB's and 2 FB's for a good part of last year. I think there are some concerns about LT's health and the future of Sproles past this year. Johnson does give them a physical RB they simply don't have, unless you count Hester.

They can get away with 3 CB's because they can play Oliver at CB in a pinch, he was drafted as a CB. Weddle played CB in college, so they could use him at CB in the nickel and they have in the past. . They are keeping Whitehurst simply because I think they really like him as a backup QB in the future.

The eight players on the Chargers practice squad are receiver Gary Banks, linebackers Darry Beckwith and James Holt, cornerback Simeon Castille, offensive tackle Corey Clark, defensive end Andre Coleman, fullback Billy Latsko and center Ryan McDonald.

The only big surprise is that receiver Charly Martin, who made a splash in the first preseason game and showed an ability to play special teams throughout the summer, was not signed.

Re: 2008 San Diego Chargers Off-Season Thread

According to a couple people in the San Diego media, Chris Chambers was released today. Only links so far are from them on Twitter, but there is about to be a press conference.

Norv says a new LB is coming in, and Osgood will be getting a role as a WR.
