The Jungle: The Official Cincinnati Bengals thread

Figured we could start up a new thread with no date in the title (a la Lions War Room, 49ers thread, etc).

To start off, I give you this picture from the game last night. If the O-line doesn't start blocking better, we're going to see Carson in a lot worse shape than this (and, yes, his nose is broken).

A friend sent me a text tonight saying, according to ESPN, the Bengals are shopping Rudi for a WR. Anybody heard that? I couldn't find anything on ESPN.com about it.

I saw that during my play session with HC...hard to imagine Johnson netting the Bengals with a good receiver though

yeah I'm not sure what they think they can get for Rudi. At the same time, I think Bengals fans need to be honest with themselves in the fact that Rudi is done. I doubt he can have a Jamal Lewis-type of comeback season. All those carries have caught up to him. I wish it wasn't like this, I really like Rudi and I hope I'm wrong.

Also, the signing of Chris Henry tells me that Chad Johnson's injury is much more serious than they're letting on. If only we had drafted Limas Sweed instead of Jerome Simpson, it wouldn't be an issue.

Honestly, don't take this as a shot but Rudi was never what Jamal was to have a Jamal like comeback. Jamal was the offense the SB year and later had a 2000 yard season. He's a shell of his former self now but both healthy, that's still more than Rudi could be imo. I think they always wanted Perry to pass him on the charts but he keeps getting hurt. It's time to move on. Rudi's a decent back but benefited more from the passing game. The line didn't do him any favors last year either, but they need a back that makes the players around better instead of the other way around.

Yeah I don't think Rudi has a whole lot left. He's been pretty slow to heal the last couple of years.

They said Chad has a partially torn labrum, which sounds pretty bad to me. Although Kellen Winslow played with something similar last season. Jerome Simpson might turn out to be pretty good but the kid is just raw. Sweed played at a big-time program and is more likely to have come right in and contributed.

OK, wow, let me take a minute to vent about how down I am on the Bengals.

              1. They looked terrible in the preseason- the D couldn't tackle (I watched four missed tackles by starters in the first quarter of the first game) and the offense was terrible (no TD's with Palmer leading a drive)

              2. Where do they get off cutting Willie? Is that how you treat a veteran like him? What the hell? I can understand Rudi, but come one. You can't just do this too one of your all time greats and expects fans to accept it.

              3. I'm so tired of the drama with Chad. Changing his name is good for a chuckle, and then you realize how stupid it really is

              4. I'm fully expecting a 4-12 year.

Anyone else as frustrated as I am, and btw slimkibbles i love how you put that pic in this thread, lol. I just changed my avatar to it.

Good points, man. I'm seeing 4-12 too. I know I sound like a broken record but this team will continue to decline until Mike Brown is gone. You can change all of the BS with players and coaches all you want but it won't really change anything until Mikey Boy is history. Until that time, keep the expectations low and root for the guys on the field to do well. I'm really close to the point I was at, as a fan, with this franchise just before Marvin showed up. That's not good because I was rooting for them to lose every game to force major change. Changes happened but they weren't major enough it appears.

Usually I have the Michigan football to fall back on when this joke of a franchise has its almost annual crappy season. But now that UM is going through what will probably be a 2 or 3 year rebuilding process. I don't know how I'm going to be able to stomach all this losing thats sure to come.

Re: The Jungle: The Official Cincinnati Bengals thread

I have no idea why (maybe it's the Joe Flacco factor) but I actually feel okay about the Bengals chances Sunday. Beyond that I don't know but I think they can pull at least this one out.

I seriously think that whatever has been built in the Marvin Lewis Era is starting to crumble thanks to ownership, once again. Bringing back Christine Henry, which Marvin apparently didn't want, and unceremoniously dumping your biggest lockerroom presence, and longest tenured player, Big Willie, will do more damage than what people may think.

Big Willie who just signed with the Ravens. I'm hoping he can have an effect right away against his old team.

The Bengals got much better in a hurry by taking some risks on players who weren't short in talent but definitely in character. That's catching up to them now. It was a good risk to take but at some point, some of those guys needed to start being weeded out and lesser talented, high character guys worked into the mix. Hopefully they'll just pay the offensive guys whatever they want (that means you, TJ) and draft all defense coming up to try to get that balance in the next 2 years.

Good luck on Sunday. Cincy definitely has a chance but not just b/c of Flacco. First year with new coach, first year without Ogden even on the sideline, Reed banged up, CMac banged up, McGahee banged up and may not even play. Bengals are actually favorites by 1.5.

If we can't win this game. You might as well pencil us in for a top 5 draft pick next year.

Good points on the other guys. Didn't know so many were banged up. Yeah, the Bengals really need to just lock-up TJ and, really, Shayne Graham too. Kickers like him don't come around often. If Mike Brown just pockets the money he saves by getting rid of Rudi and Willie, PISSED will be an understatement to describe how I'll feel.

No doubt. They better win this game. This might be the only time they're a favorite.

It's still a road game and the Bengals aren't exactly a picture of health themselves. I wouldn't touch this game in Vegas.
