Re: 2010 Jacksonville Jaguars

The coverage team for tonight's game just said that Luke McCown is the #2 QB, pushing Gabbert to #3.

Thoughts?

I have no problem with the move. McCown is the better backup, but I do like what little I have seen out of Gabbert.

It will be nice to see Fred Taylor return home tomorrow, even if it is for 1 day. He is easily one of the 5 best running backs I have seen.

Re: Jacksonville Jaguars

Easily my favorite football player. I'm going to miss seeing him run the rock. He's always been a great representative of the team, and I'm glad he got the chance to retire a Jaguar.

I remember dominating with him all the way back on Madden 99. And he was a rookie, so you got to keep him most of franchise.

Bye bye Garrard...

The Jaguars have done it again.

Just before Week One, they have decided to release their starting quarterback.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports David Garrard will be let go, and Luke McCown will start Week One against the Titans. Rookie Blaine Gabbert is the backup.

Well, damn. Again! I never see it coming.

Re: Jacksonville Jaguars

I've started to look back and figure it out. It makes sense. Garrard never definitively beat out Gabbert. McCown was praised as the best QB in camp. Garrard's making 8M. The front office has made these kind of moves before... and it led us into the playoffs.

I'm still shocked, but I'm not worried. I still trust in GM Gene.

That being said... the Jaguars will be handing the reigns to Gabbert within the first 8 weeks.

Re: Jacksonville Jaguars

Luke is a better "QB". He gives the Jags offense a QB who can actually run a 3,5,7 step drop and deliver the ball on time. If the OL doesn't block though, it won't matter. Hopefully this will cause defenses to back out of loading the box, so MJD can get some more holes. Play-action should also be better as Garrard rarely had teams guessing.

Releasing Garrard saved about $7 million, but I still would have liked them to get something back for him in a trade. I guess no one really wanted him though.

As I said in the game thread, Del Rio is an idiot for not playing Luke more in the preseason. The only way I give him a pass for this is because Garrard said something about not being voted a captain.
