    NHL 2k5 or 2k6?

    Which is better and why?

Is the atmosphere better in last year's game?

Does the new icon passing and goaltendign moves make this game that much better?

What game would you take if you had neither at this point?

    Thanks!

    Re: NHL 2k5 or 2k6?

I really like 2k5, but I have to say 2k6 is better.

Why? Here's some reasons off the top of my head:

    * The CPU offense (even though their shot selection is questionable at times) is better than 2k5. In 2k5 they enter the zone and circle in the corner and then rely almost exclusively on the one-timer to score. In 2k6, they dump and cycle the puck, and pass the puck to the open man to score.

    * Animations. Offensively, defensively, and even the goalie animations are much improved.

    * On the fly play calling is very cool and a great addition.

    * Replays and overlays are surprisingly better than 2k5.

    * Goal variety. Aside from the CPU not being one-timer whores, there are a ton of new ways to score. 5-hole goals are especially sweet.

    * Menu and interfaces are better

    * All of the new features (icon passing ,enforcers --- niether of which I use) can be turned off

    * Board play and pinning is 100% better

    * Each team has their own individual styles and can be changed and saved

    * Sliders have more of an impact and can really customize the game to any taste

    * As good of a sim as 2k5 was, 2k6 is even better in it's gameplay

    * No gamekilling bugs. I haven't seen one yet that is nothing more than a minor annoyance.

    * Still only $20!

Things I still like better in 2k5:

    * The commentary of Thorne/Clement blows 2k6 away

    * Line change interface is better in 2k5

    * Deflection goals are better in 2k5

    ----

    Hope that helps!

I agree with most of what you said But you know me I love the commentary in 2k6 maybe its because when I watch hockey 90% of the time its Cole and Neale on the TV.

As for 2k5 it just feels way too stiff in comparison to 2k6.

        Thanks guys, I think I'll give 2k6 a whirl.

if you are talking xbox live 2k5 is better the goalies can't save anything on default.

              Thanks PK!

What slider settings are you currently using on 2k6? Still on Pro? I got dominated by the Thrashers last night on Pro 4-2. The score wasn't even that close as Primeau scored with under a minute to play. My defense took the night off as I allowed 41 shots, and Hossa scorched me with two goals.

                Re: NHL 2k5 or 2k6?

                Flyer:

I'm still using default Sim sliders on All-Star with minimal adjustments. Speed down to 2 for both teams, CPU and human speed and speed burst equal, pinning turned up to max.

But I may return pinning to default now that I've learned the NHL is really cracking down on pinning this season.

I've tried a variety of slider settings from here and 2khockey.net, including Pengman's and Venom's, and they all have some sort of flaw that bugs the sh*t out of me. I think the default Sim sliders are pretty close to excellent.

But I continue to try sliders to see if I can find anything close to the nirvana that was Grog's All-Star sliders for NHL 2K5. So far, no good.

                  Thanks for the reply.

I also have pinning maxed, but from what I understand pinning will still be OK as long as it's only on the puck carrier and he still has possesstion of the puck. Is that what you understand as well?

My sliders started with VeNoM's as a base, and I modified them from there to my personal tastes. I still am not happy with the penalties, as there is always a big descrepancy from what is called on me versus what is called on the CPU.

Dumb question, but how do you find the default sim sliders that are in the game?

Yep. But pinning guys away from the puck or after the puck squirts away from them will be called as interference or holding, as it should be.

I would stick with the Sim default penalty settings. I've found those the best of any I've tried.

When you get to the slider screens, use the black and white buttons on the Xbox controller to flip through the Custom, Arcade and Sim slider settings.

I'll have to take a look into these. How many PP's do you and the CPU average per game?

Thanks much for pointing me in the right direction. I will give these a go tonight....with some personal adjustments of course.

                        Flyer:

The amount of penalties really depends on the flow of the game and the types of teams playing. I always load the correct play style for each team using the black button in the menu screens, and that seems to make a difference.

I've had games where both teams have had only two or three power plays, and I've had games where both teams have had eight or nine power plays.
